Good riddance. There is more to this story and the whole shooting episode unfortunately.

With Cheatle gone it should make it more difficult for the Secret Service to make another attempt on Trump.

If I was Trump, I'd consider hiring my own security teams to replace the SS. Expensive, but he can easily afford it - and it's risky trusting the SS to protect him through the election.

Serious Question: Can a former or current President choose to go without Secret Service protection and hire his\her own private security?

Former president may waive SS protection. The only consequence is they also stop his classified briefings currently given so he can advise the current president on world affairs.

Current official waiving SS protection is an interesting question I do not know the answer for.
