Acorns fall on our cars and it is sometimes as loud as a gunshot. I guess too heat of the moment but one giveaway is the lack of any bullet holes in the cruiser initially so the suspect couldn't have been shooting unless he had magic bullets that exit the vehicle without making holes.
It's fine if you disagree. I can't force you to be correct.

Acorns can get pretty loud when they hit a vehicle.
OODA loop says you need to see and understand before you can make a proper decision and act. I would at least check the vehicle closely before drawing and firing.
The perp got lucky this time... getting shot at by 2 officers for no reason and not being injured. Bullets like to ricochet off auto sheet metal, so I'm glad no one in the community got injured either.

Our HOA just enacted an acorn standard capacity regulation. Our trees are now allowed to drop no more than 10 acorns per day or we will be fined $250 for each day we go over 10.
