I think someone from Dallas had a lot of money on the game and that is why they threw out their chance to win. No one goes for it on 4th and 4 when all you have to do is kick a field goal and let your defense stop Green Bay unless you can line your pockets.

Agreed. Either that or someone needs to accidentally cut the phone line from Jerry Jones owners box down to the coaches.

Mike McCarthy is known to "go for it" in questionable situations. When it pays off, he is a hero but when it doesn't, he becomes an instant zero. That had to be the dumbest call I have ever seen. Since the last 20 dumb calls McCarthy has made. But!!!!! The Cowboys defense and offense blew it in the fourth quarter. It isn't all on one bad play call by McCarthy. The whole team played bad football when it counted the most.

I agree other than I don’t think you throw away points to “go for it.” I am absolutely no football expert, but I think my grandson could have figured that out. Those two interceptions are hard to watch. It also appears their defense is not playing as well as they did.

:iagree: :iagree: :iagree: If I am not mistaken, had the Cowboys only scored a field goal, Greenbay would get the next possession to have a shot at come back. When the team that has first possession only scores three points, the other team gets one possession to make it back. After that, first score wins. I believe that is how it works these days. Correct me if I am wrong.

I am not going to correct you my friend because I don’t know. I would think you would take the three and count on the defense stopping them. Then again they were not playing their best either.

On an another note they change those rules and my feeble brain can keep up. I always thought I would HATE to be a NFL Referee.

I believe those are the newer rules. I remember the days of first score wins in OT. It almost made the coin toss the deciding factor. I think that is why they changed them but like you, I am brain damaged when it comes to sports. Not in a Joe Biden way but at a handicap just the same...LOL. I was thinking it was why McCarthy went for the TD move. He was worried about Greenbay getting the ball back if we only scored a field goal.

I googled it.

OVERTIME RULES FOR NFL REGULAR SEASON
At the end of regulation, the referee will toss a coin to determine which team will possess the ball first in overtime. The visiting team captain will call the toss.
No more than one 10-minute period will follow a three-minute intermission. Each team must possess, or have the opportunity to possess, the ball. The exception: if the team that gets the ball first scores a touchdown on the opening possession.
Sudden death play — where the game ends on any score (safety, field goal or touchdown) — continues until a winner is determined.
Each team gets two timeouts.
The point after try is not attempted if the game ends on a touchdown.
If the score is still tied at the end of the overtime period, the result of the game will be recorded as a tie.
There are no instant replay coach’s challenges; all reviews will be initiated by the replay official.

So yeah. If the Cowboys scored a TD, game over. Field Goal, Greenbay receives one more possession.

I'm still boycotting the National Felons League/No Fun League whatever you want to call it.....I have found that the quality time I now spend with family and friends instead of watching sports ball is much more satisfying.
