Mac computer assistance

#1

Post by LDB415 »

We have two Mac computers my best half uses for her work. To move documents between them she uses a memory stick and has to move it back and forth. Is there some way to make them talk to each other so she can swipe them back and forth or otherwise not have to constantly swap the memory stick?

Yes....

1. Assuming they are on the same network...... WiFi or wired should be the same process...
Be sure to select the correct operating system from the from the drop-down list in the upper left of this link...

or...
2. If she wants to share files between a home computer and an office computer, she'll need some cloud storage location where she can upload or sync a directory that gets shared between both computers..

If they are on the same network just use a shared volume. Depending on the security concerns of your IT staff, she may be able to access her work network from home. Check with her IT guys. Otherwise, Dropbox is a good off the shelf, cloud solution.

If she’s using the same iCloud account then just save to the cloud. Both will have access to the files.

Thank you for the replies so far. I should have included more. They are here at home about 18 inches apart. One is pretty old but some of the programs that work for her are old and work on it where they won't work on the newer one. I've passed the info so far on to her and she's exploring it.

The old Mac is on OS 10.8.5 and it's an iMac 21.5 inch late 2012. The newer Mac is OS Big Sur 11.3 and an iMac Retina 4k 21.5 inch 2017.

She can also use Dropbox if they are logged in with different iCloud accounts.

You should be able to use Airdrop in a Finder window on both Macs.

Thank you everyone for the help. This should keep us busy for a day or two testing options.
