Correct, it is colloquially known as the "Great Purge". High ranking officers who weren't on-board with leftist ideology were sidelined and forced out while those who toed the line were boosted up the chain. Couple that with a generation of senior NCOs (the very youngest Boomers and oldest GenXers) hitting the end of their military careers (20+ years of service) at the same time, and it set the uniformed branches up for the mess we are seeing today.
