Ice Storm 2022

#1

Post by cmgee67 »

How’s everyone making it through the ice storm of 2022 in North Texas? We lost power once so far and it has stayed on. Others I know lost it at 8pm last night and it is still off. Pray for us and your neighbors! Once that 20mph+ wind starts to blow that’s when we will see some real damage start to happen.

All fine here in Las Colinas. We have all underground lines, but because of the generation shortages last year, we went 3 full days with zero power. We had a lot of damage but nothing compared to some.

We put in a generator for the house since last year, but we haven't had to use it. Mainly sleet right now.

It’s amazing that 45 min east of me is above freezing and they haven’t had a hint of ice

Have been in our home here in west Plano for 20 years. We have never lost power for more than a few minutes.

We are pretty well iced in. I could leave if I had to but I’m
Going to stay put. I put a big heavy duty tarp over the cab of the truck and windshield in case I had to go anywhere today. That way I wouldn’t have an inch of ice on the doors and couldn’t open them

Started snowing about 30 minutes ago on the N side of FTW. Big, fluffy flakes. We have a friend visiting from South Africa that has never seen snow, except in pictures. Just flew in yesterday. Talk about good timing. He's got a grin from ear to ear. We went out for a few minutes to get some pictures and video with him in his first snow. Lots of fun to see it through his eyes. Like a 50-something kid. :thumbs2:

On the good news side, a friend that works at DFW reported that his commute this morning was slow but the roads not too bad. Walking out in the street in front of the house, the footing is decent enough that I would not have too many worries driving a few miles to the supermarket if necessary (no need though). Mostly sleet with snow on top and not at all icy yet.... Crunchy, not slidy.

Y'all stay safe and warm. ;-)

we lost pwr last night for close to 2 hrs
found out this morning it was from a tree branch the wind bounced on the line.

since then we have been fine, weather app said heavy snow for 60 minutes, but reality was heavy rain since about 5 am
now its raining little pellets of frozen stuff. not sure if its sleet or what.
starting to build up in areas blocked by wind

so i am doing my taxes , might reload a few things later. i have to pace myself :biggrinjester:
no need to get out or go anywhere

dog ran out and did here stuff real quick, ran in and demanded i dry her off, she is asleep now

Hope everyone fares better than last year. My wife and I were supposed to be traveling to Mansfield this morning for a three day stay, but the weather has prevented that obviously. Stay safe everyone!

The Greater Lubbock Metroplex has dry, wind-blown snow with little accumulation other than some small drifts. Streets are hit or miss depending on how much wind can blow across them. Dry and clear at the house where there is no wind break.

Current temps around 15 degrees F (WC -3) after a low of 9 F at the house (WC -3 F). Forecast is calling for a low of 5 F tonight with the temperatures climbing back into the 30's tomorrow. Cloudy today, sun forecasted tomorrow.

No power outages up here that I've heard of but we haven't gotten the ice. Just bitter cold wind. I'm sure it's worse up around Amarillo.

Stay warm and safe.

No snow or ice as of 1530 here in Texarkana. We got a barely noticeable amount of sleet with the rain about 1300. None stuck and was gone in minutes. I hear roads are iced up a few miles north of us though.

37 degrees and raining in Houston.

I don’t have Griddy as my power supplier this year, since they went bankrupt and the Republican controlled Texas government decided I shouldn’t be allowed to buy electricity wholesale.

that is weird
we are in quitman just south of sulphur springs
we got falling sleet stuff and some stuck ...but now its clear and cold as a well diggers boots
my weather app had a large ice blob around us and it kept saying we had heavy snow...we never did get snow, just rain
great to hear everyone is safe and warm this year
