Prayers please

Post by cmgee67 »

A friend of mine is going into open heart surgery this morning at the Baylor heart hospital in Plano. It is a pretty major surgery that is being done but it is also a very common one from what I found. He will be in the hospital for 5-7 days recovering and then a 3 month process of physical therapy. Thank you all for your prayers.

Prayers from here. I can relate. I have a family member who has been dealing with cardiovascular problems for a while now: quadruple bypass surgery in 1999, about 12 stents put in place at different times over the intervening years, and an endarterectomy a few years ago. The bypass surgery itself--often called a "cabbage"--has held up fine for the past 22+ years. But it's no walk in the park to have done.

Prayers for a good outcome and a speedy recovery. I went through that in May 2020, and it's scary, but with today's technology, very common and has a very high percentage of success. I spent 13 days in the hospital, but that's because I had a lot done at the same time - heart valve, aortic root replacement, CABG ("cabbage" as mentioned by Rafe - but just a single one), and ablation to stop A-Fib.

Once released, it was a few weeks before I could walk very far - used a walker or rollator for a few weeks to help. Went through cardiac rehab in Sept/October and that went well - and now I feel really good. It certainly helped everything!

Hope all goes well for your friend.
