Discount Tire using the same tactics as Oil Change places

I went today ~1.5 mi from home and got N2 put into my tires. $10 per wheel and covered for the life of the tires. Bridgestones, so they should be good for a while. When they (generically, not sure what this place used to charge) were charging $25 per tire it and 14 miles from home it was more iffy to be worth it. The benefits are real. It's worth it to me. YMMV

Oh, yeah, far drier than regular air so the tire compound and the wheel material are less contaminated and deteriorate far more slowly from within. Oh, yeah, larger molecules so seeping out through the tire is much slower meaning pressures stay up properly much longer. Oh, yeah, more temperature stable so the fluctuation in tire pressure from cold to hot is less keeping the tire closer to optimum pressure at all times. But yeah, big deal, so what. YMMV.

Huh? So, how many times have you had to replace a set of tires because they were "deteriorated from within"? How many times have you had to re-inflate your tires because the "smaller molecules seeped out of the tire"? I check my normal-air-filled tires at least once a week, and have to put air in them maybe every 6 months, if that often. Yeah, big deal, so what.

Found a screw in the center of the tread on one rear tire. Never had dealt with Discount Tire, but a buddy told me they fix flats for free. I was in and out in two hours, no charge, and they were pretty busy. No sales pitch. I last bought at Sam's, but maybe I'll check them out.

I never have worried about the interior of the tire. The exterior wears out much faster.

Maybe if we used nitrogen we wouldn't have to change the air pressure in the Winter when it gets cold, and again in the Spring when it heats up. I've bought tires at Costco with nitrogen and new cars with nitrogen. I used to be concerned about adding air at home, but I stopped that nonsense, and bring out the compressor whenever a tire has low pressure.

They were not lying to you. The rears do wear down quicker. As someone who drives for a living I can tell you that’s true. I can also tell you that the fronts usually only wear fast on the inside and outside corners from turning or if you have a bad alignment. Having uneven tire wear can cause other mechanical issues with the vehicle itself. Not to mention if your problem is too close to the sidewall they won’t patch due to liability reasons. Discount tire is by far the best tire chain in the USA. We have had a fleet set up with them for as long as I can remember and on more than one occasion they helped me out and didn’t charge me. The major chain I say to stay away from is NTB. They will up sell you and they are actually supposed to try to. I’ve had my fair share of dishonest experiences there.

On both counts. I've never had a problem with Discount Tire even with fixing flats on tires that I didn't buy from them. I had numerous bad experiences with NTB. At one time, I thought that NTB was affiliated with Sears.

I drive less than 5k miles per year as I work from home. So your 3-4 years and worn out tires would need to last me 10 years or more. LOTS more time to corrode from the inside. So for $10 per tire I get lifetime N2 fill for the tires, the benefits that are known fact of more even air pressure cold to hot and slower leakage, and the potential benefit of the tire not going bad on the inside. A dollar a year, two cents a week. Yeah, I guess I HUGELY wasted money on this.

Tires are a consumable....unless they are on my truck....haven't bought a new set of tires in YEARS...but then again I never keep 'em that long

On my '17 Corvette Z06 I actually got over 14K miles on the OEM Michelin Pilot Super Sports...that's VERY good for those tires and that car (and me....well, mostly my wife drives "my car")... They are being replaced tonight with a set of the Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires...they are an AMAZING tire! If I get 5K miles out of them that will be a miracle! But the grip is INSANE! I'm used to ordering tires by the pallet for the race car with just a quick email to Pirelli so it was a bit of a pain in the rear finding these tires for my street car...a huge hassle actually...and then getting them installed....but such is life...1st world problems....
