SB 550 Passed

#1

Post by jerry_r60 »

It looks like SB 550 has passed the house without amendment. I think this one goes on the Governor next. This one removes "shoulder or belt" from "holster" on allowable open carry.

I am going to be weird and hope the governor doesn't sign this one. And it's not for the reason some may think. HB 1927 has the same language in it, removing "belt or shoulder" from the code. I would rather THAT bill be passed and signed into law. Just my personal opinion.

I don't think they are mutually exclusive. HB 1927 will get give more freedom than SB 550 but SB 550 passing doesn't take anything away from or block HB 1927.

I know what you meant but the governor signs or doesn't sign means it becomes law. He has to veto it to try to block it.

If 1927 is passed and signed, the same language is added to the penal code, making SB 550 irrelevant. In either event, "belt or shoulder" is being removed. I would just prefer the one that has more freedom restored than SB 550.

Since HB1927 is in conference committee they can remove any conflicting language, problem solved. Once a conference committee version is presented to both houses they can pass or kill it as they would have anyway.

Assuming that the conference committee resolves the issue in time. We shall see.

Right, that's my understanding too. I want to see HB 1927, just didn't understand why be against SB 550 passing, we don't lose anything with it and like you said, it's irrelevant if we get HB 1927.

And that is my only argument. I appreciate the language, I just want it to come from passage of 1927. SB 550 is good, HB 1927 is much better....only because it comes with much more than a simple change to the code of removing "belt or shoulder". I am not really against SB 550....I would just rather it be made irrelevant by passage of HB 1927.
