2020 Census - Texas Gains Two Congress Seats

The new allocation of congressional seats came in the U.S. Census Bureau's first release of data from a 2020 headcount. The numbers chart familiar American migration patterns, and confirm one historic marker: For the first time in 170 years of statehood, California is losing a congressional seat, a result of slowed migration to the nation's most populous state, which was once a symbol of the country's expansive frontier.
States gaining seats: Texas, Colorado, Montana, Florida, North Carolina and Oregon. States losing seats: California, New York, Ohio, Illinois, Michigan, Pennsylvania, and West Virginia. Don't hold me to that list; it's just from a quick glance at the news. May have to come back and correct it.

In an irony of ironies, Fox News reports that New York would not have lost a seat if it had counted just 89 more residents. Remember, after the retirement of the space shuttle program, how obnoxious Chuck Schumer was that New York won out over Houston--the home of NASA and the Johnson Space Center--to get one of the shuttles for museum display?

I'm now sorely tempted to send Schumer a nice postcard that says, "You wanted a congressional seat, but you can't have it. Texas gets it. When people all over the country decide they want to go live in New York City instead of moving out of it, then maybe you can have your seat back."

Any bets that New York is going to file some sort of appeal and whine and scream about this congressional seat? And that then, if they consider the recent post-census exfil of people from New York City, that they'll find the amount of population loss is much, much higher?

New York came up 89 people short to retain that seat. Now maybe Coumo will think it's a bad idea he killed all the old folk.

The tweets in this thread are righteously brutal.

Now for the redistricting fight in a special session of the legislature. Luckily we have majority in House and Senate at the State level. Regardless of how it is done, Dems will file a law suit. Maybe they can do it good enough to unseat Sheila Jackson lee.
