Re: Any updates?
Goes to the Senate for cmte hearings and potentially a vote. Fight ain't over yet, but this is a good start. Lots of other good legislation passed by the house today, check out the TSRA PAC site.

Re: Any updates?
Texas Senate should be a slam dunk but of course you can’t count on anything.
“Permit less” Carry was not in lieutenant governor Patrick’s five priority bills. I hope that’s because he knows it will pass the Senate and he doesn’t have to throw his shoulder behind it, but my pessimistic/realistic side says it’s not a good thing that it wasn’t on his priority list.

Re: Any updates?
The opposition in the Senate could try to fill it with amendments, but hopefully judging by the House they will be voted down.ELB wrote: ↑Thu Apr 15, 2021 6:15 pm Texas Senate should be a slam dunk but of course you can’t count on anything.

Re: Any updates?
A couple of minor updates -
The next step will be that it is read in the house on third reading tomorrow This will be the first House bill discussed on the day. There will be opportunity for amendments again, but usually, this is much shorter than second reading. After that it will be sent to the Senate.
I do not know that Amendment 20 by Goodwin incurs any costs. DPS is already releasing annual LTC numbers, so this will have minimal if any cost impact to the State. With the wording of the amendment, I have a hard time seeing it being much more than a query of already existing databases.
If you did not hear it, I HIGHLY recommend listening to or reading Representative Canales' closing remarks once the journal/recording are available online. He is normally a staunchly anti-gun Democrat. I found his closing comments to be well articulated and frankly a bit surprising (spoiler alert, he voted FOR passage of HB 1927).

Re: Any updates?
Anyone concerned that, if this becomes law, it will, like open carry, trigger many more businesses to post 30.06 signs or otherwise prohibit carry on their property, licensed or not?
The number of places that I can carry actually decreased after open carry passed, because many places posted 30.06/30.07 signs in response. Will this prompt a similar, or even greater, reaction? I hope not, but am concerned that it will.

I agree 100% with this. It was a nice breath of fresh air to hear him speak like that.Papa_Tiger wrote: ↑Thu Apr 15, 2021 7:00 pm If you did not hear it, I HIGHLY recommend listening to or reading Representative Canales' closing remarks once the journal/recording are available online. Something I came across:
I left a voicemail.Urgent, action needed Texans, make those calls!!
GOA Texans
URGENT: Rep. Huberty is trying to weaken Constitutional Carry on 3rd Reading on the House floor today.
Right now in the bill there's an exception to "gun-free" zones - if you leave when you are personally told guns aren't allowed, there's no penalty.
Huberty wants anyone who crosses the threshold of a school with a gun safely in a holster to get a 3rd-degree felony - $10,000 fine or up to 10 years in prison.
CALL Rep. Huberty's office NOW and tell him to WITHDRAW this amendment.
