Apparently if you were admitted to the hospital with a do not resuscitate you died of Covid in New Jersey study shows.

That would make sense. The new pneumonia in hospitals.

By using total infected, you are including people who have it, but may or may not die. By using people who have completed Covid by either dieing or being recovered it is a more accurate view of the current situation. Early on it was more like 10%, but we are now more experienced at treating people. The percentage who died is still suffering in the US from the dismal outcome of patients in New York.

Texas is doing much better at 2.2%.

Heart and pneumonia deaths just being listed as Covid now, no excess deaths except probably suicide.

My issue is with the government implementing these kind of laws and rules. It is not the governments job to protect us from ourselves. Give people the latest updates on spikes and make recommendations but allow them to decide for themselves what to do about it. The government tyranny is not likely to stop with covid. Now that they have seen just how easy it is to make laws and rules on the fly, they will use it for other issues as well.

I have come to the conclusion that this is the biggest difference between conservatives and liberals.Conservatives believe the job of the government is to protect us from others who would prey upon us (either criminals or other nations). The more strongly you believe in this philosophy, the more libertarian you tend towards.

Liberals believe the government's job is to protect us from ourselves and take care of us like a parent does. The more strongly you believe in this, the more you tend towards communism and socialism.

And this explains why we can never unite with the current extreme left government. And why they can never unite with us. If you cannot agree on the basic function of government, how can you ever work together. Our country always worked out before because the two sides never went to the extremes and we could usually meet in the middle and produce a functioning country. As each side moved away from the center, the other responded by moving further in the opposite direction and we end up where we are. This is why I see a violent restructuring of our country in the near future.

My son texted yesterday that he thought he might have Covid. His FIL tested positive and he was hunting with him just prior to Thanksgiving.
Today I was on the phone with him while he was processing some venison to make sausage. He made a comment about thinking his sense of smell might be off, because he couldn't smell the venison. I asked if it had been in the cooler sitting in ice water. He said yes, but in a plastic bag. No water was in the meat. The conversation turned pretty comical as he started searching for more and more things to sniff to see if he really couldn't smell.

He said I know I can taste because I just ate a fantastic piece of Apple Pie.
I suggested smelling his ground coffee. He couldn't smell it.
He got in the fridge and started trying to smell lemon juice, Pickles and eventually some Apple cider vinegar from under his sink.

About an hour later he said his wife was on her way back from the clinic. She tested positive for Strep, Flu and Covid19.
I can't post all the comments in this family friendly site (my son is a C130 crew chief so his language isn't always PG) but he had me rolling. I'm glad to know he hasn't lost his sense of humor.

Man! This thing just keeps right on spreading. For some reason it feels like it is spreading faster than in the spring when we first started being hammered by our oppressive government. What county is he in? I am in Collin county and as of this morning we had 1500 new cases since November 30th. Five days ago. My prayers for his and his families well being go out.

He lives on base at Canon AFB in NM. But his in laws live in Childress. Which is where he and my DIL probably got it.
Thank you for the prayers. They're both young and in very good physical shape. So I think they'll both be OK. But I am a little concerned.
