Holsters
Howdy folks, looking for recommendations for holsters for the Hellcat and P365. Like probably everyone here, I've got boxes and drawers full of the ones that just didn't work out over the years. Hoping to avoid that this time. Likely impossible; but thought I'd give it a shot anyways.... Looking at both IWB and OWB. The Crossbreed Reckoning is intriguing, since it can be modified for either, but I'm no fan of the appendix carry, so interested to hear if anyone has experience with these.
As always, with holsters, I'm wandering in the dark, but looking to lighten up my EDC load from a G23/G27 to the Sig and Springer. Open to ANY holster options that have worked well for you.

Re: Holsters
I get that you’re no fan of Appendix carry, and I used to not like it either. And then I discovered CYA Holsters. Now I carry AIWB about 95% of the time. Pistols carried that way: G43, G26, G19.
The G43 holster was made by my son, but it is identical to the CYA holsters for the other two guns. CYA holsters are pretty inexpensive, and they’ve held up for several years now, still looking brand new. I went with the "carbon fiber" option ($39.74), but the basic models sell for only $37.74 (for the G19). They are comfortable for all day carry. At the end of the day, the holster unclips from my belt and the whole package comes out in one piece, so no unholstering/reholstering required to put the gun up or put it on, and I keep the pistol stored in the holster, trigger covered, as an additional safety layer. Retention is very good (and adjustable), and the gun comes out of and goes back into the holster securely, "clicking" into place.
My proportions are what one could charitably call "prosperous", so your size/shape shouldn't be a problem.

Re: Holsters
For us to be of any real help, tell us which holsters you have liked over the years... and maybe we can suggest similar design/cant/ride height etc.
For example, if you and i shared a like for XXXXX holster, maybe my XXXX holster for my smaller gun would also work for you. Beats a blind recommendation, IMO.

Re: Holsters
IMHO, IWB hybrid holsters are most comfortable. I personally like 3:30-4:30.
I really like the Comp-Tac MTAC. The leather is stiff and has molded nicely around my hip. Last time I looked, Comp-Tac can make holsters for the P365 but not the Hellcat (yet). They are here in Houston. Pretty sure Mr. Cotton (admin) is a fan of the MTAC too.
One complaint with the IWB Hybrid is incomplete trigger coverage. I recently ordered a Black Arch Dual Clip IWB Protos-M because of it's similarity to the MTAC but complete trigger coverage. Customer support was prompt answering my questions prior to purchase. Haven't received it yet.

Re: Holsters
I used the M-TAC when I had a Glock 27. It was okay. Then I switched to .45's and Glocks 21SF & 30SF. Noting the extra thickness I never actually tried an IWB, but figured it was not doable or would not be comfortable. I had already carried OWB mostly and have stayed with that method ever since. IWB is probably doable with a single stack (slimmer) .45, but I also don't have any smaller than full size in those yet. I certainly agree that a good IWB holster with an acceptably slim handgun can be comfortable. I'm just not convince that it is more comfortable than OWB. IMHO

Re: Holsters
I bought the M-TAC years ago for a full size M&P 45 and like it. I bought another one several years later (to have one that I could alternate with for days when the leather got wet with sweat) and found that Comp-tac changed the way they cut the leather. One the original holster, I could get a grip on the pistol that I could shoot with. With the newer style, that was nearly impossible as it interfered with getting my thumb on the pistol. I had to change my grip once I got the pistol out of the holster. I thought about taking the holster to a leather shop and having them modify it but that was more trouble (and cost) than I wanted so that holster is just sitting in a box. I did talk to Comp-Tac about the change in design but they were not interested in discussing. That among several other issues with failed equipment that they made has me looking to other places for gear in the future.

Re: Holsters
Thanks for the input fellas, keep it coming. As to what I have/wear now, I've been sorta happy with the Crossbreeds and other similar holsters I have, but being a not so young man with generous "love handles", the leather backer folds over and impedes access to the gun when drawing and re-holstering over time. I generally carry at 4-5 o'clock, as it works best for my body lumps and bumps.
When I was a younger, poorer, thinner man, the "Mexican carry" with a good belt and no holster worked great with my 1911's. Obviously, that's a NO GO with our current plastic wonder guns that are thicker and generally without safeties, AND, we now have the blessing of advanced holster technology. I still like my old Milt Sparks slide holster for the 1911, and use it at the range and when I carry them from time to time.
As time has marched on, so have I. I've become more of an OWB guy, since I've not found anything IWB that is comfortable enough to wear EVERYWHERE, ALL THE TIME. Having grown up in the woods, rather than the city; I'm all about function. Not fashion, bling or tacticool junk. I actually pocket carry the Sig quite a bit, but the Hellcat, is a bit too big for that. At any rate, any holster for these guns needs to COMPLETELY cover the trigger guard....

Re: Holsters
Hey Tam, was going to PM you about this, but thought it might be of interest to others here as well. I'm really interested to learn about your journey to AIWB. It seems to be the fashionable thing just now, but am still struggling with shoving a pistol down my pants pointed directly at my twig and berries, let alone my femoral artery. If I have a mishap at 5 o'clock, I'd just shoot myself in the butt.... Might could do it with a 1911 or other external safety gun, but a Glock, Hellcat or P365 makes me more nervous than a long tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs..... Will check out your recommendation, and the Crossbreed Reckoning is pretty intriguing. I could kinda see wearing AIWB if I was standing all day, but sitting; in and out of the car, and, well, sitting would seem to be not so comfortable with folks sporting a belly overlap and foopa. Looking forward to hearing about your experience and advice.
Re: Holsters
Have you looked into Alien-gear. Their shape shift system gives you multiple carry options all with one package.

There are many better holster and companies than Alien Gear. The Shape Shift, in particular has many drawbacks. In this video, John Correia (Active Self Protection) demonstrates and explains.

Re: Holsters
I will say that they have a WIDE range of guns they can acomodate. I just took a look at their site. I didn't even know that Mossberg made handguns. The Annoyed Man wrote: ↑Wed Nov 04, 2020 8:12 am I get that you’re no fan of Appendix carry, and I used to not like it either. We must each decide for ourselves with risks we are willing to manage and which benefits matter most to us.bagman45 wrote: ↑Wed Nov 04, 2020 1:48 am Howdy folks, looking for recommendations for holsters for the Hellcat and P365. Mission drives the gear. Knowing how and what you want to carry and why you have made those decisions will inform your choices.
I do not have a box of shame. I did send one holster back to the seller because they did not send the size I ordered. I do have multiple holsters for all of my pistols; i.e. IWB and OWB. Some of my holsters fit multiple pistols; i.e. a holster for a double stack M&P M2.0 will fit any M&P M2.0 with the same or shorter barrel length. None of my holsters are just sitting in a drawer. It helps to take advice from knowledgeable folks. In my case, I have seen them carry and shoot. Master and Grand Master USPSA shooters and recognized instructors.
My favorite training outfit, KR Training, has a box of loaner holsters. They help students by letting them try the gear during class. Sometimes, students show up with substandard gear and KR offers better options for use in class. Training and competition are also good ways to see what works for others and what works for you.
bagman45, for an OWB holster for your Springfield Arms Hellcat, take a look at the Safariland 7TS ALS with the 567BL belt loop. https://safariland.com/products/model-7 ... ster-34850 This is an excellent holster for carrying openly here in Texas. It also works for concealing under a jacket. The 7TS ALS is also available for the Sig Sauer P365. I carry my S&W M&P9 M2.0 5" openly in a 7TS ALS using the 567BL at 3. My 88 year old father carries his S&W M&P9 M2.0 Compact 4" in an ALS at 3, usually concealed under a jacket or suit coat. Your mileage will vary.
This link goes to a list of gear that instructors at KR Training use. These are quality holsters that may or may not work for you. https://blog.krtraining.com/2020-kr-tra ... ters-ammo/

Re: Holsters
They do not make any holsters for the 365 or the Hell Cat but I have to look the Perun OWB holster by Raven Concealment. It's ambidextrous, hugs the hips pretty good, and it's pretty slim so it doesn't print very much. I usually wear my Glock 17 OWB with this holster with just a cover shirt. Only wish they made it for more guns.

JM Custom Kydek makes some great IWB and OWB holsters. Multiple options and colors. And great customer service.

I have a Tenicor Certum IWB holster for my Glock 17. Great holster, very slim.

Comp-Tac also makes some quality products for a reasonable price.

Re: Holsters
I have heard good things about Alien Gear's 30-day Test Drive form people who have returned holsters. Also good things about the Forever Warranty from folks who have used it often. Selecting a holster can be a uniquely personal experience and what is important and works well for one person may not matter to another.Tex1961 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 09, 2020 7:46 pmIf you say so.
