Leading gun control group misses 2020 spending target… by more than half

You can get a feel for the tepid support the group is receiving by looking through their September financial report, typically one of the biggest fundraising months of a presidential election year. They barely cleared a million dollars in contributions. More than 80% of that amount came from two types of sources. Much of the money came from a comparative handful of wealthy liberal donors contributing figures in the thousands. The other major chunk came from the liberal fundraising group ACTBLUE, though it was bizarrely broken up into hundreds of small-dollar checks.

The reason for the cratering of public support for Bloomberg’s gun-grabbing operation should be obvious to anyone who has been paying attention. Any talk of making it more difficult for law-abiding citizens to legally purchase firearms isn’t going to sell very well at a time when gun sales are setting records all across the country. That’s even true in the very-blue state of California, where first-time gun buyers are keeping the shelves empty in most shops. And many of them are frustrated at the delays, costs, and regulatory hurdles they are encountering because of the gun control laws already in place.

The most common reasons many of those first-time buyers cited in a recent survey included lawlessness in the streets, worries over prisoner release programs and concerns that gun shops may be shut down if the Democrats retake the White House and the Senate. That makes any sort of gun-control message in the Democratic platform problematic to say the least. And you’ll notice that you haven’t heard a peep about that subject during the debates...

You may have also noticed that the attacks on the NRA by high-profile Democrats have definitely tapered off as well. The Democrats may be devious when it comes to abridging your Second Amendment rights, but they’re not stupid. They know that this particular message will not go over well this year, even with many of their typical supporters.

Just (mostly) shutting-up the anti-gunners this election has been pleasant, but shoving the issue to the background can hurt us, as well. We don't hear much in the media about gun control right now, but Biden (well...Biden's handlers) hasn't changed anything that I can see about his announced policy stance: https://joebiden.com/gunsafety/. I had a Biden supporter argue with me, telling me I was being paranoid, that Biden wasn't planning any new gun legislation. The only response when I got her to actually read Biden's platform was, "Oh." But of course then she wanted to argue with me that "assault weapons" should be banned and the many millions already owned be criminalized unless they were registered under the NFA.

If Biden gets elected, we're gonna be in a world of pain from executive orders and BATF policy interpretations (witness the Honey Badger event) alone, which won't reach SCOTUS without a lengthy series of lawsuits and appeals.

What I'm hoping is that the Defund Bloomberg Movement will have a meaningful effect on the state-level elections. I'm still seeing a bunch of ads funded by Everytown for Gun Safety opposing Troy Nehls, but I haven't noticed them recently buying adspace for anyone else here in the greater Houston area. The major metro areas in Texas seem to be getting deeper blue with each election, and we have to do everything we can to prevent a total takeover in Austin.

Crossposted. But yeah; Everytown really hates Sheriff Nehls. I remember a couple of years back when Nehls gave a press conference about criminals coming into Ft. Bend via the Grand Parkway, committing violent crimes, and then fleeing back out of the county. Paraphrasing something Nehls said: "If you're thinking about coming to Fort Bend County to commit crimes, think twice. Our citizens are well-armed, and the results for the criminals will not be good."

Not a message near and dear to Michael Bloomerg's heart.

Bloomberg money has been going after Sarah Davis with almost daily mailers. They're attacking her on health care and education. The mailers are all stamped with Everytown as the sender. It's clear (to me) that this is Bloomberg going after a pro-2A legislator...like he really gives a flip about education in Texas.

Really big bucks being spent in Central Texas to unseat Congressman John Carter (who beat MJ Hagar two years ago) with a free everything unknown "engineer" who has received huge influxes from gun control groups. They are also trying to unseat State Rep Brad Buckley by a retired Army Captain who has been in the district about 6 years. Analysis shows 85% of her funds came from out of state and quite a bit of that from gun control groups. One of her adds talks about her years of experience with thousands of Soldiers under her command. Sorry, but after my 30 years of active duty followed by 17 years working Civil Service for the Army, Captains DO NOT command thousands of Soldiers. At most, usually between 100-200 Soldiers and then usually only for 2 years or so.

Amen to that. To actually have thousands (plural) under command you'd be looking at least at a full-bird colonel, wouldn't you, commanding a brigade?

That sorta reminds me of the ads for Sri Preston Kulkarni that, up until around early October because I'm sure his campaign was finally called to task about it, kept blaring that Sam Houston was his great uncle. A great uncle is the brother to your grandparent. Sam Houston was born in March 1793. In order for Houston to be Kulkarni's great uncle, Kulkarni would have had to have been born sometime around 1860. Kulkarni wasn't lying...he was just omitting four or five generations.

Shoot, George Washington is my cousin through his grandfather's wife, Anne Pope. Maybe I should run for office...
