Don't get too excited yet. Yes, her nomination made it out of the Senate Judiciary committee, but she still has to be confirmed through a vote by the whole Senate.

This is my thought as well. I am just waiting for the Democrats to pull some kind of last minute shenanigans. Then we have to hope enough Republican senators show up and vote for her. Covid is still lurking in Washington. It would only take three or four of them to mess it all up.

Well I thought that best men we have said masks prevent spreading and catching Covid....so why can't the elected Senators show up to vote?

Because as we have seen, the Democrats will take their marbles and go home if they don't like the way things are going rather than working within the system to register their complaints/dislike. If the ballot box is where we get our voices heard, then the Senate vote is where their voices should be heard.

The Senate Judiciary Committee advanced Amy Coney Barrett’s nomination to the Supreme Court
WASHINGTON—The Senate Judiciary Committee advanced Amy Coney Barrett’s nomination to the Supreme Court as Republicans unanimously voted to recommend that the full Senate approve her, paving the way for her confirmation next week.

The tally was 12-0. All 10 Democrats on the panel declined to appear at the proceedings to protest the Republican plan to fill the position just ahead of a presidential election.

I don't think any Dem Senators need to be in attendance, either for the committee vote, or the floor vote on Monday to have a Quorum. They can just sit this out, and look like the spoiled children that they are. Sen. Kennedy from Louisiana, said that Shumer should just just file a hurt feelings report and move on. :smilelol5:

The committee had an internal rule that it did not have a quorom unless at least two members of the minority party were present. Fortunately for the Republicans, the Democrats set the precedent in the Senate of just changing the rules that hampered them from doing what they wanted. That was their so-called nuclear option a few years ago when they did away with the 60 vote rule to end debate. They were warned then, as McConnell pointed out, that it would come back to bite them.

The judicial committee now only requires a simple majority of the committee to be present to have a quorum and conduct business. He followed their example and changed the rules. The Democrats have now been bitten by their own precedents and actions.

The bad news is that until they used their nuclear option, the American people could count on the Senate to be a little more restrained and collegiate and working across party lines. We can no longer count on this. It will bite all of us at some point in the future because no one party will ever be in power for ever. We need to return to some civility and decorum to avoid our Congress becoming a simple tyranny of the majority at the time.
