Re: Tesla picks Austinfornia for new plant.
What exactly is wrong with Tesla, and what is wrong with Elon bringing jobs to Texans FYI I own Tesla stock, plan to buy one of the cars and a power wall and have property 10 miles from this factory location and I am ecstatic they are coming. I think California is a cesspool and dislike how anyone attempts to force their views onto others without objectively looking at all viewpoints.
Sure keep the diehard liberals out or help them see the error of their ways. All the other divisive stuff and lumping everyone into one group you dislike isn't helpful.

I am not sure where you read someone posting there was anything wrong with Tesla bringing jobs to Texas. I do hope they learned their lesson about living under democrat socialism and leave their politics in Kalifornia.uthornsfan wrote: ↑Wed Jul 22, 2020 10:27 pm What exactly is wrong with Tesla, and what is wrong with Elon bringing jobs to Texans FYI I own Tesla stock, plan to buy one of the cars and a power wall and have property 10 miles from this factory location and I am ecstatic they are coming. The irony is you will still have to buy out of state due to the dealership requirements in Texas and the dealership franchise lobby.

I hate to ask a dumb question but could you explain this to me? What do you mean, "buy out of state" and what would this cause?

Tesla won’t sell to franchise and only deals factory direct. Texas only allows franchise and not manufacture direct. The Texas Dealers Lobby spends a LOT of money to keep this in place to keep the manufactures beholden to them for sells.
So the irony here is even if the truck is made in Texas you have to go out of state to buy one.

Re: Tesla picks Austinfornia for new plant.
Elon had quite a fuss with the California authorities about the operation of his factory out there. He was already NOT building new facilities in Cali before that because of business climate. Hopefully he brings his lessons learned to Texas.
P.s. after he gets started on the new factory look for an effort to modify that dealership law.

He has tried and lost so far. I wonder if the factory presence will make a difference.

Re: Tesla picks Austinfornia for new plant.
They are using legal tricks to get around the law. Technically, they are not selling you the vehicle. You talk to them and tell them what you want, they set the order up and you give them the down payment, then they send it to another store where it is legal for them to sell direct and that store submits the order to the company. That store gets the vehicle and prepares all the paperwork for the sale to you, then you either have to go there to pick it up or they can have it shipped to you, care of the local store you thought you were buying it from.
Which shows the idiocy of trying to maintain this weird law that says you must buy through a franchised dealership.

I imagine there will be legislation proposed next year.

There has been legislation proposed in prior sessions, but it hasn't made it anywhere. Perhaps this session will be different.SewTexas wrote: ↑Thu Jul 23, 2020 10:54 pmsrothstein wrote: ↑Thu Jul 23, 2020 10:51 pmThey are using legal tricks to get around the law. It wouldn't surprise me if a dealership loophole wasn't part of the enticement package.
