I have noticed the family outings myself. I repair A/C so I have to be out and about to keep people cooling. I stopped at Lowes to pick up a few filters. A/C supply houses are making it hard to buy from. I saw many couples and a few entire families in there wondering around. Went to Walmart to get a hose. Lady in front of me had three kids with her. Saw many couples shopping for lawn and garden supplies. I get it. People get bored sitting at home but it reminds me of "ice days" when the roads are bad early in the morning so people stay home from work. By 10 AM they are all out shopping and getting food. Too dangerous to work but not to dangerous to go shopping. Human nature at work.

People are out and about because it hasn't effected them yet. This is just an inconvenience. When people they know start dying or the bodies start piling up they'll listen. Most people live in a bubble and if doesn't directly effect them they could care less. The American people have been sheltered to long from the bad things in the world. They just see it in the news and it's always in another country. Im afraid it's time for a reality check for a lot of people.

I think closing the beaches in Galveston was unnecessary. I was out on the beaches yesterday before the surprise closure order. There were very few people. People weren't just obeying the 6 ft rule, they were following a 200-yard social distancing rule. A walk on a near-empty beach is pretty harmless and has done my mental health a lot of good. I think that City just hates seeing people enjoying themselves and was looking for a way to take a little bit of joy from people's lives. City is run by restaurant mafia and is butthurt cause the county shut down the restaurants.

Just guessing, but maybe closing the beaches was more of an attempt at keeping people from more infected areas from coming into Galveston - removing a temptation for those considering Galveston as a travel/vacation destination?

So an accountant friend posed this question. Your a lending company with loans- you have payed off loans, loans that defaulted and required repossession and total loans made.

Lets say the name of your lending company is the USA. Here is the data for the USA.

USA
1.Total loans made 143,532
2. Payed off loans 4,865
3. Defaulted loans required repossession 2,572

4. Active loans = (1. - 2. - 3.) = 136,096 loans

5. Percent of loans that defaulted and required repossession = ( 3. /( 2.+ 3.) ) = 34.58 %
I stopped reading here. If I run the numbers I get:

2,572 / (4,865 + 143,532) = 2,572 / 148,397 = 0.01733 = 1.73%

1.73% is a lot different from 34.58%

What's up? Someone is way off. Maybe it's me, but if so please explain.

I wasn't at all the beaches, but I was at Stuart at about 10-11 am, I saw about 4 people at a mile of beach. Was down at East beach a few days ago I didn't see anyone, but it was during the week. I don't think the beach is drawing in a lot of outsiders. It just seems to me that a quiet beach is a lot safer than the buses that are still running.

US first country to report more than 100,000 infections.

Important word here - report
That’s "reported" cases. It’s a safe bet that China’s numbers are actually higher. They just lie out the wazoo.

It’s ALSO worth noting that the number of American dead is doubling rapidly now. We were at a little over 800 dead just 2 days ago—Wednesday. It’s just shy of 1,700 right now, on Friday. At this rate, don’t be surprised if the number of dead hits 3,400 on Sunday, 6,800 on Tuesday, 13,600 on Thursday, etc.

This is bad.
So, looking at this website's graphs, the US numbers are doubling about every 2.5 days ... not as bad as what I had previously posted, but still, very bad. The site updates around 7pm central daily, using the Johns Hopkins numbers, and it’s a good way of looking at the data: http://91-divoc.com/pages/covid-visualization/

AFP News via Yahoo: AI tool predicts which coronavirus patients get deadly 'wet lung'.
Researchers in the US and China reported Monday they have developed an artificial intelligence tool that is able to accurately predict which newly infected patients with the novel coronavirus go on to develop severe lung disease...

The tool discovered several surprising indicators that were most strongly predictive of who went on to develop so-called acute respiratory disease syndrome (ARDS), a severe complication of the COVID-19 illness that fills the lungs with fluid and kills around 50 percent of coronavirus patients who get it.

The team applied a machine learning algorithm to data from 53 coronavirus patients across two hospitals in Wenzhou, China, finding that changes in three features -- levels of the liver enzyme alanine aminotransferase (ALT), reported body aches, and hemoglobin levels –- were most accurately predictive of subsequent, severe disease.
Article claims this tool predicts ARDS with 80% accuracy. Could this become a turning point for patient care and equipment allocation?

I hate incomplete information like this. What about hemoglobin levels? Do they mean high, or low? Is there ANY information about WHAT levels of ALT and hemoglobin are significant?
