And The Wait is Over...

Let's see what the holidays bring in terms of timing.

4 Oct - Application Completed Online
7 Oct - Application Received
20 Oct - Class Completed (mychl.com)
22 Oct - Application Mailed

Thanks to this forum, I included copies of my birth certificate, certificate of naturalization, and passport. My father was stationed overseas.

Received my PIN, so my application has been marked "ENTERED 19 OCT 2007".

Is THIS the date I should start counting off the 60 days from ?

Anybody know, or should I just email them again?

I was hoping to get the thing by Thanksgiving, but now it looks as if it'll be an early Xmas present instead. *sigh*

At least it gives me an excuse to do some window-shopping for a GLOCK 30;

My Bersa .380 Thunder's nice and all, but I get the feeling I need a sub-compact with a little more punch....either 9mm, or .40 S&W or .45 acp as used by the GLOCK 30.

I used to diss GLOCKs, but after test-firing a few, and hearing smart people who know guns praise them, I'm warming up to them.

I applied online so I received my pin with the printed application. I mailed mine package on Monday so I don't expect to see a status change for a couple of weeks.

My understanding is the 60 days starts from when the application is received by the "designated" person. The mailroom has 30 days to get it to that person so it can be up to 90 days.

I'm also wondering what impact the holidays will have. I'm hoping for an early present but don't expect to see the plastic until January.

I didn't apply online, but we have almost the same timeline. This will be interesting to see whose comes first. I'll race you.
10/23/07 - Completed package mailed to DPS
10/26/07 - Package arrives at DPS
11/29/07 - Recieved PIN via usps
01/09/08 - Still waiting on "investigative report" for background check.
02/05/08 - Issued/Active - 101 days total

I have the PIN but it still shows "packet mailed." I have two counties to check--Collin and Tom Green. We'll see how it goes.

Yeah I have a county in Mississippi to check. I'm not sure how that will affect mine.

I have lived in multiple states/counties over the last 5 years, and my application took about 6 weeks (from mailing packet to receipt of license). Not too bad since they had to check all those addresses.

They give you your PIN at the time you apply online. If you've applied with the normal paperwork then it usually takes between three and four weeks to get your PIN in the mail. From what I understand usually by that time your online status reads "processing application".

Here's my timeline:

9/15: registered for packet online, paid by credit card
9/20: received packet in mail with pin
9/29: took class
10/1: mail packet to DPS, cerified mail
10/4: packet received by DPS (three days from DFW to Austin? I mail stuff to Pa. in two days all the time, but oh well)
10/29: status changed from "packet mailed to applicant" to "processing application" Finally!

Been at the same address for a long time, don't have a overly-common name, so hopefully I'll beat the 60-day mark.

Well...did my daily check on the TX DPS Site. Still "Packet Mailed". Today ends week 2. Maybe it will change to processing next week...

Mine changed to processing on the 30th day.

I called after 25 days and the (very nice) fellow I spoke to at DPS informed me my app was processing and the online status should change in the next week or so. It did.

I kinda wonder if their online info is updated on a weekly/monthly basis unless your app is approved and they are finished with it. When they clear your app as finished, status changes as they mark it off the list of apps each processor handles/is responsible for.

Pure conjecture on my part tho'.

Hang in there, it is excruciatingly slow, I know, but I just try to think no news is good news. If I don't hear anything, I'm hoping it's because everything is processing at a snails pace, rather than a problem with photos etc..

So far, I'm 43 days since they received the app, figure I have about that long to wait, unless I get a nice suprise (I hope).

Plus, of course, the holidays will slow things down a bit.

Spend some time at the range, looking for a holster, reading the laws from the book and otherwise try to just get your mind on something else.

Waiting sucks, no doubt about it, but it won't last forever ;)

I'm not really in a hurry. I've carried in the past in other states. I figure keeping this thread going will help pass the time!

Called DPS today as my application still shows "Packet Mailed to Applicant" almost 4 weeks after they received it. I was told they had received it and the application was still in pre-screening...sigh...
