TX: Man who shot his entire family over cocaine habit to be executed tonight
Tonight being 06 Feb 20.
I noticed this one a while back. It's particularly heinous, I think.
Wife controls money because if he has it, he will spend it on drugs. After church on Sunday wears her down enough to get $10 to buy a rock of cocaine and smokes in the back yard while his wife, nine month old and seven year old daughters, father-in-law, and two sisters-in-law are inside. He wants more when he's done but knows his wife won't give him any more money, so he gets a handgun and shoots every member of his family except the 7 year old -- because the gun was empty. He reloads and then chases the 7 year old into the kitchen and shoots her too. Kills every one except one sister-in-law who staggers to a neighbor's house to call for help (she was in critical condition but ultimately survived).
He took his wife's purse and drove to an ATM but couldn't get the card to work. Police caught him within 30 minutes and he provided a written confession.
Took jury 10 minutes to convict, and then sentenced him to death. Appeals up to SCOTUS, but barring one last minute appeal, tonight's the night.

Stuff like this makes me wish we still hung people. Lethal injection is too humane for this guy.

This is sad. I believe he should have his appeals, but it shouldn’t take 18 years. He has been allowed to live all this time.

Don’t know how accurate this is, but it has some staggering figures for the cost of an individual on death row.

This is wrong. It is more cost effective to put them to death within five years of their sentence. The Bottom Line
The debate over whether or not to abolish the death penalty often centers around morality or its effectiveness in preventing crime. But the cost is another relevant factor. Because of its severity, death row and execution costs are an economic burden on government budgets. It's more cost-effective to commute death penalties to life imprisonment sentences without parole

Facts are stubborn things; and whatever may be our wishes, our inclinations, or the dictates of our passions, they cannot alter the state of facts and evidence. - John Adams
