Saw this in the WaPo this morning.
“Hard times create strong men. Strong men create good times. Good times create weak men. And, weak men create hard times.”

"When you're wounded and left on Afghanistan's plains,
and the women come out to cut up what remains,
jest roll to your rifle and blow out your brains and go to your gawd like a soldier."

Rudyard Kipling, 1865-1936.

Afghanistan has always been a troublesome country for those other countries that conduct operations there.

It's been a cash cow for the US military-industrial complex, which Dwight D. Eisenhower warned us about, just before he handed over the reins to JFK.

It’s a sad thing when headlines that the US government lied and covered up aren’t even surprising anymore.
Trump should fire every flag officer, diplomat and intelligence person involved in the fiasco.

back in early 02 the Air force tested a MOAB (mother of all bombs) about 100 miles from where i was stationed...it shook the buildings so hard that items jumped off shelves and lights flickered, this was in fl. no telling how many fish and birds got vaporized
sadly we should have dropped 5 or 6 and the whole place would have just been a sand pit, sure would have saved lives and treasure.
we learned nothing from russia getting it handed to them there

I don't know diddly squat about that place except for what I read in the distorted media accounts. And I have no desire to have firsthand knowledge. But history says the soviets fought a log war there then gave up. We have fought a long war there and it seems we have not significantly changed the situation. It seems the ideology that prevails in that county is entrenched. Either by fear or some other motivation, those people don't seem to be able to rid themselves of the violent ideology that has plagued that place for generations.

I would like for no more American soldiers to die there. And if they spawn attacks against us again I would wish they did not exist.
Do what you say you're gonna do.

AQ was defeated quickly in Afghanistan ... I think the occupation probably was more about Grand Chessboard than counter-terrorism.

Wapo somehow didn't think to mention it, but at least for the oil companies the pipeline is shaping up as a success: Afghan pipeline :???:
