Any body In the computer/IT field?
Curious if anybody is in the IT field! I have a few questions about entry level positions.
Thanks

The left lies about everything. Truth is a liberal value, and truth is a conservative value, but it has never been a left-wing value. People on the left say whatever advances their immediate agenda. Power is their moral lodestar; therefore, truth is always subservient to it. - Dennis Prager

Ditto. 34 years in. I have done big iron, midrange, networking, development, project management. Currently running security, pen testing and application deployment for a bank.

Depends on the company and line of work. I've been doing IT for 20 years. I got certified back in 1999 on Windows NT 4.0 to get my foot in the door. Haven't updated any certs since. They make a good way to get your foot in the door at some places, but they may not be required.Take Down Sicko wrote: ↑Mon Jun 17, 2019 5:18 pm Just wondering if any certifications are required every yearwhen you work in IT?

Basic entry level cert is the compTIA A+ Cert. Has to be renewed every 3 years iirc. Most have similar time frames as well typically 1-3 years.

As far as certs go, it will depend on where you go to work, and what you will be doing.
For starting off, they can be helpful to show basic knowledge with certs like A+, Net+, MCP, and CCNA. Longer term, it may be needed by your company if they are a service provider. Many service providers need to have a set number of certified individualizes to maintain their partnership levels with different vendors like Microsoft, VMware, Dell, HP, Cisco.

I thought it was. But I do have a twisted sense of humor from the police work.

My employer has a bad habit of using the live environment for beta testing. They dump stuff on us knowing it doesn’t work, expecting that we will find a solution on the local level.
