The old style RF inventory control antennas can be seen just inside the inner set of doors. I'm going to guess that the new units are RFID system antennas. Would you install a metal detector in a passage you run shopping carts through? Probably not.....

Metal detectors would be useless... they would go off every time a shopping cart went through the doors.
Yeah, not to mention car keys, pocket knives, metal frame eyeglasses, my artificial knee, the plate in my head, and of course my firearm.
:iagree: My wife cannot fly now (two artificial knees) without getting pulled out of line for an intrusive pat-down, regardless of what TSA says about their machines not being influenced by that metal. I cannot imagine how much fun it would be to have Wal-Mart employees trying to deal with anything similar.
If their machines aren't picking up titanium and stainless they need a refund.

I've been setting off wands and detectors due to metal in my head, shoulder, arm, and one leg since 1985 and travel with my X-Rays and a doctor's note.

Are those electrodes uncomfortable when you button your collar?

In the photo I posted, the stainless steel structures closest to the camera are gates, not scanners. Apparently when operational they will allow entry into store but not exit, forcing you to exit through a check out aisle. The scanners are further away from the camera in the photo, by the second set of doors.

Dang! I usually enter and exit through the plant section. I hope they aren’t changing that!

Ours did also. The gates replace the human 'Greeters' who were formally employed to stand by the doors. If you go out the entry gate without going through a check out line, the gates honk at you. How do I know this, you ask?

Next, Walmart will have robots returning shopping carts from the parking lot. I bet 'ol Sam Walton would be turning in his grave if he knew what a retail monster his heirs have created.
