Finally went to Academy today

Post by govnor »

A while back I was asking if Academy had guns, because I went to the one in Arlington and didn't see any. Today I went to the one in Grapevine and they had a decent selection. They had a Bushmaster AR at a pretty good price, but not the one I want.

One thing I did notice was the H&R snakecharmer was priced at $138. Same gun at Bass Pro is $158, I think. I know it was more than Academy, which was surprising. Pistols seemed to be pretty close in price. I guess the moral of the story is to shop around. A few guns looked like they were cheaper than at the gun shows. Also, they seemed to have more cleaning equipment than Bass Pro. I was impressed with the store and will go back. Bass Pro doesn't carry AR-15's, which is ridiculous for such a huge store.

Best gun selection ever (retail store) was at Gander Mountain, but from reading here they've increased their prices. I need to make a trip out to Cabela's, I suppose, to check out the used gun selections.

All four of my handguns were purchased at Academy, seems they have the best prices around.

If you haven't been yet, you should check out Sportsmans Warehouse in Lewisville. They offer a pretty good selection with competive pricing.

The prices at Champion Firearms (my local shop) tend to beat Academy.

But, I did buy a Browning Buckmark earlier this year at Academy - they have a great price on the Buckmarks...

Just purchased a shotgun out there saturday. They will help you out on a gun if you find it somewhere else cheaper so shop around and get the lowest price, have proof, they used to match it plus 10% off but I dont know if they grant that anymore.

yeah, academy is where i've bought my guns so far. the one in league city carries rifles and pistols. you gotta think where you are though. the one in galveston doesn't sell any guns at all. too much crime in the area. it's hard to beat their prices in most cases. i just wish they had more of a selection.

The only thing to watch out for with Academy is that some of the guns they sell are special models made just for them. For instance, their Bursa Thunder 380 doesn't have adjustable sights like a factory model. It also has rubber grips.

I have bought numerous handguns rifles and shotguns from Academy. They are usually competitive but when it comes to guns you need to shop thoroughly before you buy...EVERY TIME!

To illustrate: when I was shopping for my Ruger 10/22 carbine Academy beat WalMart by 59 bux. Thats a whopping difference for a gun that costs no more than it does. On the other hand I found my G-23 cheaper at Carter's Country. My G-21 came from Bass Pro Shop

And even though it not like it was in the old days you still need to hit a gun show before you buy to make sure you get the best deal. I got my NIB G-36 for 485 bux out the door.

I ain't nobody's idea of a shopper but when I'm buyin' guns I am relentless.
