Is this an antique gun part???
I found the piece of metal buried about 3" deep in the soil. I first took it for an old cabinet pull or some piece of junk but after staring at it for a bit I couldn't help but think it might possibly a part to an old firearm.
Does anyone on this forum have any knowledge of antique firearms? Is this maybe an old trigger guard to a musket or black powder rifle? Or an old revolver or something?
Or if not a gun part, can anyone identify what it is or how old it might be?
Thanks,

That looks like a trigger guard to me, of the type that is not permanently attached at both ends. In that case, pulling one end down performs some action, like unlocking the action.

Looks like it could be the trigger guard off an old rifle...

How big is it?

It is 4.25" long. I tried posting pics of it next to a tape measure but they didn't go through, sorry.

its 4.25" total length, however there is an apparent break on the long prong so I have know idea how much is broken off or what shape it was.

If it's a gun part I would guess it's part of a falling block action too

It looks like an old gate handle to me.
