I have never had a background check at the Katy Academy (At least I was not charged for one)

Not a problem samman2018! I wouldn't even worry about the store making it easier to purchase a firearm with a CHL. I don't have my CHL yet and filling out paperwork and doing the background check doesn't take long at all. I've never had to wait longer than 30 minutes to complete the whole process! It's easy peasy! I would just focus on getting the best price you can on the firearm. You'll need all the extra $ you can save for the accessories and ammunition. Nights sights, laser, light, holster, etc. Whatever you'll need for the guns main purpose. Just don't mess with the firearms internals. No trigger upgrades or any other bull. It's Glock perfection for a reason. Leave it alone and it's almost guaranteed to work flawlessly! My Glock 22 has a little over 1000 rounds and never had an issue. I load it and it fires every time! Plus you'll need the extra $ for range fees and targets to shoot! Good luck with your hunt! The Glock 19 is an excellent choice for your first firearm! I want one too!

Also don't forget to learn how to disassemble your Glock and lubricate it with grease before shooting it at the range. You'll need to know how to do this anyways to clean your weapon. Not that a Glock needs cleaning very often but it's a good habit to always keep your guns properly lubricated. Don't worry about cleaning the barrel either. I've only cleaned mine once after about 500 rounds with a bore snake and my groupings keep getting tighter and tighter! I recommend using Hoppe's 9 or Ballistol for cleaning. Basllistol has a bad stench to it but it works really good to protect your guns from corrosion. I like using Red Line CV-2 High Performance Extreme Pressure Grease. It's easily found at any local auto parts store and even Walmart sells it. I use that grease on all my firearms and it works awesome! Plus it's cheap! Although I have been wanting to try this stuff called Slip 2000 EWG. It's on Amazon for about $10 bucks and I've read some great things about it. Any of these will last a life time!

The one in frisco says they don’t, or at least it was that way about 6 months ago
Sorry guys, just saw the replys. This is from the Academy in Denton and in Keller near where I am. Both stores say it is company policy. To me it doesnt matter, I still bought what I went in for because of the best price.

Jasday, I’m confused they say that they do accept chl as tans don’t do background check, or they say that will do a background check regardless?

Yes, I just show them the LTC, fill out the paperwork, pay for it and they walk you to the front of the store and you go home and hide it from your wife. They never say "we are waiting on the background" so I don't think they do one. I've had my CHL since 1997 so I really don't know what happens when they do a background check on you. If you go there when it is not crowded, you can be out of there in just a few minutes with a LTC.

I have to say though, I've only purchased one gun from Academy in the last year. I'm lucky that GrabAGun.com is only a 40 minute drive away. 90% of the time they wipe the floor on prices VS Academy. The only reason I purchased from Academy this year is because they had a sale and the price difference was only about $10.00 more than grabagun, and they are only about 5 minutes from the house. I also hate that they keep trigger locks on and won't let you feel the trigger pull before you buy. I mostly only buy accessories from them and occasionally ammo when they have a good sale.

Ditto for me at the Flower Mound,TX Academy. I've purchased a couple of firearms from them, Just presented my LTC, filled out the 4473, paid and they walked me to the front.

Seems a bit silly, to "walk" a gun to the front door for an LTC holder. Obviously, they already have a fully loaded gun on them. Do they think you will suddenly go on a shooting rampage, with your new gun? And what's to stop you from loading your new gun in the parking lot, and coming back in?

Might try academy, but I would like to get a good relationship with a local ffl, the ones I have reached out to so far have not filled me with confidence. I was in academy on Saturday gen 5 Glock 19 539.00. Seemed good price to me.

I’m in Katy too. I pretty avoid Bass Pro for guns... nice to browse but way too expensive.

I’ve only bought at Academy (99 & I-10) and one G43 from Boyert. Both were fine.

We should have a Katy meet and shoot... at targets not each other. :tiphat:
