What makes you think that? The trigger on my 1911 is lighter than the one on my Glock. You may very well be correct, but unless this was intentional it could also be due to muscle memory and whatever actions the shooter regularly practices when on the range. If it was an accident it was complete stupidity that he even drew the loaded gun from the holster in the first place.

Not blaming the gun, they don't just "go off" on their own. Given the information that they were "discussing tactics", I am making the assumption that the shooter broke at least two of the four cardinal rules, I'm also guessing that his gun performed as designed, but offered no guard against his critical mistakes. Pure conjecture on my part, though.
