Do we know yet if they found the person who just "dropped" a gun into a sofa at a store? The story does not seem to clarify what will be done for the irresponsible gun owners part in this.
Thank goodness that kid did not shoot himself or someone else.

I call applesauce. This story stinks of a set-up.

Recommends NRA kids training without mentioning the NRA.Weger added that now is the time for parents to talk about what steps to take if a child finds a gun. Two steps are critical: don't touch it, and go find and tell an adult.
[insert catchy jingle here] Stop, don't touch- leave the area, tell an adult!!
I caught my 9 yr old singing that the other day. Eddie the Eagle sticks with kids... it may be a little corny to us but it sticks. I think he was 3 when we started him on it. It should be part of every daycare/preschool curriculum. And it needs to be updated for elementary grades.

Re: IN: Child finds a gun in the cushions of a couch at IKEA
Some of it is culture. I was taken out hunting when I was 3 years old. My mom told me she use to get so mad at my dad but my dad was all excited about his first son hunting with him. Gun use and safety have been instilled in me from my very first memories so when I had kids, I did the same. Now they are doing this with their children.
I think there are more people these days who were never around shooting sports or hunting. Being raised by video games is not the same. Learning to shoot from fellow gang bangers is not the same lesson either. Any idiot can pull a trigger. Responsible gun ownership is a learned behavior.

This story is either a fib or we have a fellow gun owner in need of Remedial training!

From the above mentioned article, emphasis mine.....
Ya think he would have noticed it was missing if he was open carrying?"Indiana has a strong [concealed-carry] law with low fees, no training requirement and full recognition of out-of-state permits," according to a ranking in Guns & Ammo magazine. "Open carry is also legal in the Hoosier State."
