What I was thinking is that Obama might have withdrawn Merrick and let Hillary pick a real progressive. Who knows.RoyGBiv wrote: ↑Wed Jun 27, 2018 3:11 pmIf Shillary won, the Senate would have approved Merrick, lickety split.rotor wrote: ↑Wed Jun 27, 2018 3:01 pm Just think of what McConnell did when Obama picked Garland for supreme court. The gamble of letting Garland go through, moderate liberal they say, blocking him and having Hillary win and pick a flaming liberal, or having Trump win and pick a conservative and we all know that Trump was never going to win. I don't know if McConnell has a time machine or could just see into the future. I would not want to play poker with a man that maneuvered that hand or was it just plain luck! Worked out for those with conservative leanings.

I think it was a good gamble. We had nothing to lose. If they let it go through before election, Merrick...Hillary wins...Merrick anyway. But that one chance existed to avoid the complete corruption of the Supreme Court.RoyGBiv wrote: ↑Wed Jun 27, 2018 3:11 pmIf Shillary won, the Senate would have approved Merrick, lickety split.rotor wrote: ↑Wed Jun 27, 2018 3:01 pm Just think of what McConnell did when Obama picked Garland for supreme court. The Senate would still be majority R's, so, Shillary wouldn't have been able to push through a real Prog.rotor wrote: ↑Wed Jun 27, 2018 3:15 pmWhat I was thinking is that Obama might have withdrawn Merrick and let Hillary pick a real progressive. Reading the lefty butthurt on Twitter is just delicious.
Most all of it involves obscene language, so I won't link directly, but I'm sure you can go to twitter.com and find it on your own.
ETA: Twitchy.com is a better place to start.

That's my thinking. I do believe if Trump would have lost, she would have retired. Now she's playing a waiting game.TreyHouston wrote: ↑Wed Jun 27, 2018 3:45 pm There is NO WAY Ginsburg can make it another 6 years. No way!!
In certain extreme situations, the law is inadequate. In order to shame its inadequacy, it is necessary to act outside the law to pursue a natural justice.

I agree. The question is if she can live that long. She may just do it.jason812 wrote: ↑Wed Jun 27, 2018 3:48 pmThat's my thinking. I do believe if Trump would have lost, she would have retired. Now the Democrats are saying the selection should be put on hold. The very same ones who said it should not be for president election. But somehow a mid term congressional race is reason to hold? Unreal!

As long as who ever is picked is a Staunch Constitutionalist I'm good with it!
Now if RBG will be so kind as to make a vacancy by whatever means, that would truly be historic and will be the death of the liberal agenda!
