Can it be?: We may lose more gun rights under Trump than Obama?

As the name indicates, this is the place for gun-related political discussions. It is not open to other political topics.

There is a larger "war", there is an upcoming election where we could lose seats. Bump stocks are like a fighter jet dumping chafe to divert a missile and buy time.

This is an excellent analogy and you are spot-on about the 2018 mid-term elections.

The 2018 elections are probably the most important mid-term elections in decades. Republicans only hold a one vote margin in the Senate. If the Democrats take control, then there's no chance Trump will be able to appoint conservative judges to fill two and possibly three Supreme Court vacancies before the 2020 Presidential election. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that the Democrats want to lose the AR-15 battle so they can use it as a battle cry in November.

Why give up anything. What's next? 20 or 30 round mags?
Are some of us willing to give those up too?
Because I'm not...and won't.
If I don't need a bumpstock then I don't need 30 round magazines. Whatever. They can vote for unconstitutional laws but nobody needs to vote for them in November.

Here is my take.

This country was founded on the notion that rights are endowed by our creator, and that men only permit governments to exist to the extent that those governments protect our god given rights. Whenever any government becomes destructive of those rights, and by extension it's very reason for existing in the first place, it is the right and the obligation, of the people to overthrow that government and replace it with a new one that will actually protect our god given rights. The second amendment, along with the rest of the bill of rights, and the constitution in general is in place to guard against our government becoming destructive of our rights by preventing it from happening, and if that fails, by providing us the means to ensure that we can replace the offending government with a free state that will actually preserve our rights.

The second amendment is not just about protecting our right to have fun at the range, to hunt, or even to defend ourselves against criminals, anymore than the first amendment is just about our right to watch adult movies or listen to rap music. These amendments are there for much more important reasons.

The question of whether we "need" bump stocks, or anything else, needs to be placed in the proper context.

Well I am a patriot life member and do support the NRA. I have given memberships as gifts and will continue to do so. I know money may be spent better through the ILA arm of the NRA, but I think getting people involved at least as members it more important in the long run.

My concern is not with bump stocks. I don't use them. My concern is with where this all leads to. Trusting politicians to protect our rights while making the dems think they getting something is hard for me...but I'll try!

Charles is correct, we need more numbers and we need to make sure our voices are heard, so please let your representatives know how you feel!

I have no allegiance to Bump Stocks, but I refuse to give a single inch to the enemy. The "if all we lose" mindset 100% guarantees failure. Don't fail.

So, you're going to sit on the sidelines and not vote for the more conservative/constitutional choice over a POSSIBLE BUT AS OF YET UNDEFINED bump stock ban?

Man, I just don't get it. I really don't. Just hand over both houses in November already......

How can you guys vote against the GOP after they passed the hearing protection act and national reciprocity, not to mention cutting federal spending to reduce the national debt?
This is my opinion. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

The GOP elites (swamp...which Trump sounds like he is emersing himself in) need to quit taking us for granted. That is the mistake they made in the 2000s under the Bush regime and why they lost the house, senate and white house and gave rise to tge Tea Party.

As for the NRA, I fully plan to renew my membership, but for anybody to act like they are God’s gift to the second amendment and everybody else needs to just shut up, get in line with the republican party and send in money sounds very John Sununnu-Karl Rove-Lindsey Graham like.

Did I just hear Trump correctly? He wants to remove the conceal carry reciprocity from the background bill and make it on its own? He says the bill won't pass with it in.

Rep. Rutherford...require buyers to have a permit to buy a gun from anyone...even private sales.

Trump...that's a good idea...then be tough on the black market. Trump...be very strong on background checks.

Trump wants the age at 21 for any gun.

We need to make sure our Reps here from us!

On a good note: Trump did say do away with gun free zones.

I don't get a good feeling from this...

At this point Trump doesn't care about reciprocity. He wants the Fix Nics bill, raising the age to buy rifles to 21 and eliminating bump stocks. Reciprocity would get in the way of any of those being passed.

So because current laws were not enforced by the FBI or the Broward County Sheriff, we are going to take rights away from the law abiding.

I don't think we have much choice on this unfortunately.
