Winter carry?

#1

Post by Dwight K. Schrute »

I know it's still good ways away, but I thought I'd ask you long-time CHLers what winter carry is like in comparison to summer carry (AKA: March-October). Do you switch to larger handguns that you may not be able to conceal during the hot months? Do you carry a BUG or extra mags (if you don't already) since there is more clothing to conceal under? Just curious, I guess. I put my North Face fleece on today just to see how it covered me, and if I wanted to, I could conceal my full-size XD outside the waistband all day long. I think I will do that and carry my Kel-Tec in my pants pocket as a BUG.

I switch from my sig 232 to my 220 and also from IWB to OWB, because its a lot more comfortable to wear with all the crap you gotta put on to stay warm in north dakota.

I will often carry a .32 during the summer, since I'm fortunate enough to live in a pretty good place and don't feel the need to carry something large. However, I will switch to a larger pistol with a more powerful caliber during the winter, not because of size, but in order to have a caliber that will be more likely to penetrate heavy clothing effectively.

When traveling to the more populated urban areas, I always carry a 9mm, winter or summer.

Nothing different, I dress around the gun Summer or Winter. You'd be surprised how much you can hide under a shirt only one size larger. Of course it helps if you are of "robust" configuration. ;-)

I also carry same way summer and winter. BHP in CTAC under my shirt, even when I wear a jacket. Too many times when I need to take the jacket off indoors, so OWB not an option. After all, this is south Texas, not North Dakota, my jackets are not that heavy and wearing them indoors is just too much.

I carry a Glock 23 40 cal fobus paddel holster during the summer time or winter time at 3 o'clock. My button ups cover it well in the summer and a jacket covers it better in the winter.

No real change in carry for me. Summer or winter I typically a Glock or a 1911 OWB or IWB depending on how concealed I feel I need to be at that time. As others have stated, you can conceal the average gun with nothing more then a cover shirt in most cases.

I carry either an SP101 or a Colt Gold Cup Custom Edition Commander in IWB holsters both winter and summer. In this climate, the season change doesn't make all that much difference. To an ex-Yankee like me, it never gets really cold here.

I too don't really change from winter the summer as far as my carrying. I dress around my carry piece.

Summer = Various Mini 1911's .45 ACP plus a .38 +P BUG. Or for quick trips & no cover garment, just the BUG in the ankle holster.

Winter = Combat Sized 1911 or P220 Carry .45 ACP and the same .38 +P BUG.
