Cheap .40 ammo alert

#1

Post by waltherone »

Just came back from the walmart at 45 and Eldorado down here in friendswood, I've NEVER checked their ammo prices there, for some reason.

Anyway, they've got the .40 blazer brass 50rd. (180gr. fmj) boxes for $7.57 a box. I bought all they had... haha, but you guys can keep an eye out at least. That was 500rds for 81.96 after tax. 1000rds. @ 164 dollars is a nice price for factory new stuff.
If you reload you may not care, but I don't (yet... if I can keep getting it at this price, I may keep buying factory for a while).

They had 10 boxes in stock today till I bought it all, so check back in a week or so :)

The walmart on my side of town (rosenberg) USED to have good prices on this same ammo, but now it's up to like 9.87 or something in that area. Last time I bought, I bought 1000rds from natchez with free shipping, for like 160ish dollars... but hell, this matches that.

I located some of the .40 at that price and bought 34 boxes. I called back the next week and he only had two boxes but still at the $7.57 price.

As I called other Wal-Marts, those that had stock of the .40 Blazer Brass were getting just under $10/box.

I assumed the cheap stuff was no more.

My local Wal-Mart just recently got their first BB in .45 only at $11.99. All the while I was reading about the great prices on BB, the stores in my area only had WWB and UMC bulk packs.

Baytown area.

The closet Walmart that I found with the cheap price was Beaumont.

Liberty had the BB at the $10 price.

Wal-Mart ammo prices vary by store and area. There are stores in the valley selling .40 at $7.57 and $9.57. .45 ranges from $9.49 to $11.99

Not meaning to highjack your thread, I see this ammo all the time but have never shot any. Is really just for plinking or is it accurate enough say for IDPA or something of the sort?

I'm not really familiar with what it takes for a cartridge to be a good IDPA one, never done any of that stuff.

I've shot probly a thousand rounds of it, but it's all been through my G23 which is my carry weapon, and I usually do things like send two targets downrange and practice shooting multiple spots quickly, drawing from holster, etc. So I never really try to shoot through the same hole every time ya know?

All I can say is that they're fairly clean shooting, and are of consistent quality (out of the ~1000 I've shot, never had any clog up due to OAL differences or anything).

Lots of people use the cci Blazer Brass for IDPA (at least I pick up a lot of the 45 acp cases)
Reasonable gun control is hitting your target with the first shot.

I was in the Wally World at I45 & El Dorado in Houston a couple of days ago. I couldn't find soul one working in/near sporting goods. Not to mention the entire gun cabinet was empty. I know the Wal-Mart in Indiana near my brother stopped carrying all guns (and promptly lost the support of the hunting community that had been in promoting hunter safety classes). Is this happening here too?

That Walmart still sells handgun ammo, it's behind the counter. I went in a couple of weeks ago to buy some ammo. They had the Blazer Brass but the idiot wokring there couldn't find the key to the cabinet. I got tired of waiting on the incompetent help and left. I went back 2 days later and they were out. They were still out as of yesterday.

Blazer Alum is what I use for competition. It is thus far the best factory ammo I've used for IDPA/IPSC/GSSF/etc. Cleaner than WWB, slightly hotter for more cycling reliability at speed where a grip may not be the best, and plenty accurate. It is what GLOCK normally uses to test and collect a sample before they send their firearms for retail. Gone through tens of thousands. It is normally the least expensive. Will continue to use it.

Heh, I waited 15+ minutes for the guy to return with the key. But before that, he approached ME asking if I needed any help. Just took him a while to find that key I guess
