People constantly ask why we didn't just repeal the prohibition on churches, hospitals, etc. The simple answer is we didn't have the votes. The prohibition on carrying in churches, hospitals, etc. was necessary to pass SB60 in 1995 in order to create concealed carry. It was not politically feasible to delete those locations from the off-limits list only two years later. Heck, look how long I've been pushing to repeal all off-limits areas!

There is nothing confusing about §46.03(i); people simply quit reading too soon. Read together, it is absolutely clear that churches, etc. are not off-limits unless they receive notice pursuant to TPC §30.06. If LTCs are not aware of this fact, then their LTC Instructor let them down in a very big way.

Do you think finally fixing this is something that could be brought up at the next session?

Pastor says he plans to carry handgun after Sutherland Springs church shooting

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/nationa ... -1.3619146
Pastor Jaime Chapa of El Faro Bible Church in Sullivan City, Texas, told ABC affiliate station KRGV he'll be carrying a handgun during church services from here on out.

His licensed parishioners are also expected to have weapons on them inside the house of worship.

"What happened in Sutherland (Springs, Texas) will not ever happen in our church," he said.
Pastor Chapa is not the first in this area.
This is just up the road from me; but a little further up the road from me there is a church where the pastor is ex-Air Force, is an active competitive shooter, and a significant chunk of the congregation carrying at any given service because we know we're welcome there. This has been the case for several years.

I also found this interesting;
NBC26 has reported that a website called SheepdogChurchSecurity.net has appeared online, offering courses for parishioners and clergy members looking to implement increased safety measures.

The site suggests churches do a facilities assessment to avoid becoming "soft targets."

This is from the Cleburne paper. Interesting stuff for the Catholic church
“As far as if a parishioner has a CHL and a concealed weapon is not something we as a church would inquire into,” Stainbrook said.

Joel Victory, a member of the parish said he supports that policy.

“I would encourage all CHL holders at any of the churches to carry in case a situation like Sutherland Springs comes up at their church,” Victory said. “I think if members are prohibited from having guns then it’s open season in the church and I wish that [Bishop Michael Olson] would reconsider the policy for the Fort Worth Diocese.”

Now that the horse is out of the barn
Is the Air force going to close the barn door? (Make an effort to find and enter all this bad guys into the FBI's database?)

I have been watching but haven't read about their plans.

We had a speaker at our work today, doing a Self Defense Saftey Meeting - he said he heard the Church in Sutherland had a 'no gun policy' - didn't say if it had any posted signage or not - anyone heard this?

During a question and answer session on NBC’s “Today” show, former vice president and rumored presidential 2020 contender Joe Biden said the hero who stopped the Texas church shooter earlier this month should not have been allowed to carry an AR-15.
God, grant me serenity to accept the things I can't change

And the firepower to make a difference.

Wow!
There were 2 shooters, both armed with AR. Ex VP was more confusing than confusing himself. Who was he referring to when he said "the shooter..." And I did not like it anyways. Maybe the next question should be VP do your recommend to get out the shotgun!
