Gun show carry?

There is a strong possibility that I could stop by the gun show tomorrow in Ft Worth. Is it legal for me to carry at a gun show if it is not 30.06 posted? Could it be a legally binding 30.06 since it is at the Will Rogers Center? Any questions I am missing?

I have yet to not see a 30.06 sign at any gun show. It will be posted.

They rent the site for the show, so they can post it, as I am sure it will be posted at the front door.

You can carry, but no ammo and your pistol will be checked and tie-wrapped.

well, that would kinda make it pointless...as much as I may not like it, I guess I will have to lock it up in my car, or carry it in the case inside as if I would trade it in...to keep it from being stolen out of my car(worst case scenario)

maybe checking it would be the better option for the security of the weapon

Even if you carry it in a case, it will be tie wrapped.

Unload in the car.

Carry in your holster.

Have it checked at the door.

Cut tie wrap and reload when you leave.

I'm confused. If there isn't a 30.06 sign, what authority would the gun show organizers have to require a chl holder to have his handgun checked and zip tied?

Same right I would have at my house in telling you the rules of my place. They will probably have a police officer at the door and he will ask you , thus giving verbal notice. You dont have to go there so you agree to abide by their rules when entering. This to me would be different from a standard ghostbuster and such because they have a cop at the door asking and checking. If they had a non-valid sign posted and that was it then carry away.

No mention is made in the previous posts that they had a cop, or anyone else, giving verbal notice. If that were the case, then yes, a chl couldn't bring his handgun into the gun show. I've never seen that before at any of the gun shows I've been to in Central Texas, maybe it's a new thing. I assumed they were talking about the generic signs I've seen that say all guns must be checked. If there is no 30.06 or someone giving verbal warning, the other signs are not applicable to a chl.

All true. I only have been to the shows around Houston and they always have a cop at the front door asking about weapons.

Renting or leasing the property doesn't change the character of the property; it's still government-owned, so 30.06 signs are unenforceable. I know this is the argument many cities use when they require renters to post 30.06 signs, but they ignore the express language of TPC Â§30.06. The Code focuses on who owns the property, not who is in control of the property.

Here is the statute:

TPC30.06 wrote:(e) It is an exception to the application of this section that the property on which the license holder carries a handgun is owned or leased by a governmental entity and is not a premises or other place on which the license holder is prohibited from carrying the handgun under Section 46.03 or 46.035.

I am not inviting anyone to be the test case on this. I too unload when I go to a Houston gun show with a 30.06 sign.

When they do so, they're acting as private security. Feel free to either decline to answer, or be less than fully truthful.

Anytime I have been asked when entering a gun show about having a gun, my answer has always been "not yet, thats why I came to the gun show, I aint here to look!" That always seems to bring a smile to their face.

IMO, you should pick your fights. The Ft Worth Show has cops in the parking lot and cops inside. Plus Will Rogers is not Fair Park and there are plenty of armed citizens. So I generally unload and carry in.

<Anecdote>
Once when I was attending a show in Mesquite I dropped the clip and carried it and a pair of wire cutters in an ankle rig. They asked, "Are you carrying?" I said, "Yep." Presented my Glock action open, they tied 'er up and I went about my happy day. On the way out I stopped by a waste basket outside, clipped the zip tie and locked and loaded. I felt better all the way around.
