Yes, that's the only time I've seen the list is in the magazine. What I'm looking for is an ONLINE list on the NRA website that I can refer to.Renegade wrote:They are listed in Sept issue of American Rifleman.gmckinl wrote:I've looked long and hard for that listing. Sorry guys/gals, but since I'm on the Board of Directors, I cannot comment about another Board member. In fact, none of us can speak for the NRA in our individual capacity; this has to be done collectively through resolutions passed by the entire Board.longtooth wrote:I want to hear from Charles.
I'm not trying to dodge the issue, I simply cannot violate my duty as a Director. You will note that I haven't even responded to the anti-NRA comments and quotes as I normally would have done. Yes, this is a belt and suspenders approach, but I try to avoid even the hint of impropriety.
BTW, this duty isn’t unique to the NRA, members of any board of directors have the same limitations and restrictions.

Not that I don't mind hearing anything from Charles about this and other issues...
I really don't need to on this particular "crisis", if you can call it that...
This statement was made by an individual who happens to have that right to make such a outrageous comment...
Now, that chore being out of the way, I will not be trashing my NRA membership, but I will certainly be sending a note to the NRA that this comment, and the asinine excuse for making it, as rediculous damage control...
This guy will be ostrasized, and cast out as soon as they can...
Like some have said, you can vote him out I suppose, and that would be fitting...
I'm just glad I know a few of the folks on the NRA board personally...They have fully deserved our support, and I will continue to do so...
But this guy is done as far as I am concerned...

With directors like this it does explain why there has been so little aggressiveness on issues such as carry on government parks and Post Offices. If a director of the NRA doesn't get the 2nd amendment how are we suposed to get our congress critters to figure it out.stevie_d_64 wrote:Not that I don't mind hearing anything from Charles about this and other issues...

I look forward to the day when I can support the NRA.

The large BoD (typically 75 members) can work in our favor, because the bigger the mass, the more force that must be applied to overcome inertia. That means they're slow to respond to the popular tide. Since the popular tide is often against our interests, that's a good thing.
The bad part of such a large board is that most of them are virtually unknown to the membership. There are occasional celebrities like Ted Nugent, or well known public figures like Larry Craig (thankfully I haven't seen any major news outlets point out his NRA status in his recent bad publicity.)
Other than that, the BoD are mostly elected just by being on the ballot. The nominating committee obviously plays a very important role here.
And then there are some folks who like to stir the water come election time, like Mike Haas and his "NRA Winning Team!"

To be truthful, I think he probably represents the average NRA member better than Nugent.Liberty wrote:With directors like this it does explain why there has been so little aggressiveness on issues such as carry on government parks and Post Offices.
If we took a vote of 100% of the membership, I suspect the majority would rather preserve .30-30s and sixguns and hunting rights, than would support repeal of NFA'34 and GCA'68. Not to mention FOPA/MGB'86.

While I have to agree, I don't see it as insidious. I see it as another form of ignorance only marginally better than the ignorance your average anti-gunner exhibits.Liberty wrote:You are scaring me.KBCraig wrote:To be truthful, I think he probably represents the average NRA member better than Nugent.Liberty wrote:With directors like this it does explain why there has been so little aggressiveness on issues such as carry on government parks and Post Offices.

I for one am actually more in tune with Ted Nugent's opinions and would love to see a repeal of the NFA'34, GCA'68, FOPA/MGB'86, AND preserve .30-30s and sixguns and hunting rights.
I also have no problem with someone using an AR, AK-47, etc as a hunting rifle - if the reaction to Jim Zumbo's attack on evil black rifles earlier this year is any indication, many share this view.
I don't believe the RKBA should be limited to certain types of guns based on appearance or magazine capacity- it should be an individual's choice to make, not a choice made for them by some politician or judicial activist.

Charles, I understand what you're saying. Based on this: "In fact, none of us can speak for the NRA in our individual capacity..." did JJ violate his duty as a board member?Charles L. What useful options do NRA members have? When are the next elections? This is unacceptable to me, and I want something done about it.
I have long felt that the NRA mostly supported hunters and single/double shotgunners, not black-rifle enthusiasts, survivalists, IPSC competitors, or die-hard 2dA fanatics. When Charlton Heston posed for the "from my dead, cold hands" photo op, he was holding an antique blackpowder rifle. Not something I'd choose for home defense. Unless the NRA becomes more pro-active, I'm afraid that's all we'll be able to own before the gun grabbers get finished with us.
I'm afraid KBCraig nailed it: "To be truthful, I think he (JJ) probably represents the average NRA member better than Nugent.

The NRA working to repeal NFA'34? GCA'68? FOPA/MGB'86? Not gonna hold my breath on that. That's what it would take to regain my trust, however.
I had a friendly chat with Larry Pratt of the GOA once. He said he wished the NRA would stick to the things it was good at (firearms safety and marksmanship training), and stay out of politics. I agreed with him.
The NRA backed a Democrat running against Ron Paul, the ONLY member of Congress who consistently tries to uphold and defend the Constitution at every possible opportunity:

Please understand that I'm not interested in bashing the NRA. With all the power and money (especially MY money!) the NRA has, I expect much more from them. Please pass along my comments to the board of directors, or to whomever it might make a difference. Thank you.
