What is status Restoration of Gun Rights in Austin?
What is status of the Restoration of Gun Rights in Austin?
Nothing is going on?
It is so quiet here.
1) Are we going to have reduced fees for LTC?
2) Is Constitutional Carry dead?
3) What else is on the Agenda?

There are 3 anti LTC bills coming up in committee tomorrow. NRA had a call to action out on them today. There's a thread already running on that.

There is something wrong when we have a 2:1 majority in both houses of Congress, and also have a republican Governor, yet we are somehow on the defensive?
What the heck is going on, here?

Not really when you remember who they chose as Speaker.Beiruty wrote:

This is my opinion. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

Ok when do we get 2:1 plus 2? Then, we can drop the speaker. He should retire for good.

Not really when you realize the republican party as a whole has no intestinal fortitude. They need to adopt the dems strategy of sticking to their beliefs and making good on their promises. I'm beginning to think they are sticking to their beliefs.ninjabread wrote:Not really when you remember who they chose as Speaker.Beiruty wrote:

In certain extreme situations, the law is inadequate. In order to shame its inadequacy, it is necessary to act outside the law to pursue a natural justice.

Of course, the "who" choosing the speaker were the Democrats plus enough Republicans to put him over 50%. Not all Republicans are to blame.ninjabread wrote:Not really when you remember who they chose as Speaker.

So why so many Republicans voted for him in the first place?KLB wrote:Of course, the "who" choosing the speaker were the Democrats plus enough Republicans to put him over 50%. Not all Republicans are to blame.ninjabread wrote:Not really when you remember who they chose as Speaker.

These bills will go nowhere. Still sickening though.

because he's a bully. if they don't vote for him, they don't get any bills passed, they don't get any committee assignments.......And Dan Patrick has been taking lessons from him.
the guy who ran against him for speaker last session....I heard the story....He was convinced to do it..."oh, we'll vote for you!" "hey we have the votes" So he finally said ok" He did it, Everyone turned away....He was ruined...Done. His first Session and these jerks ruined his career.

Sounds like he needs to be "primaried out" next time he's up for reelectionSewTexas wrote:Beiruty wrote:So why so many Republicans voted for him in the first place?KLB wrote:Of course, the "who" choosing the speaker were the Democrats plus enough Republicans to put him over 50%. The left lies about everything. Truth is a liberal value, and truth is a conservative value, but it has never been a left-wing value. People on the left say whatever advances their immediate agenda. Power is their moral lodestar; therefore, truth is always subservient to it. - Dennis Prager

Re: What is status Restoration of Gun Rights in Austin?
My interest in the current Texas Legislative session is greater than the gun related bills, though I am keenly interested in those. I've been calling my House representative's office for several months but his phones now always go to voice mail and the calls are never returned.
Yesterday, I went to Austin and visited my representative's office. He was not in at 10:00 in spite of an important session starting at 2pm yesterday. His staff did not know when he would arrive. I was not alone - there were three women with me and all of us expressed interest in the representative's stand several key bills. The staff person could not tell us about any of those and claimed that responsibility for following each of those bills was "divided up among the representative's staff." She would not identity the staff member responsible for following any of the bills about which we had questions. Though I carefully, respectfully delivered my message of grave concern about the direction of the House this session, naming many of the separate bills that i had concerns about, I doubt that my visit had any impact. She assured the group that our representative was "working night and day" on these matters. I reminded her that effort is not a replacement for results.
My representative is and has been a strong supporter of Joe Strauss. The representative for a neighboring county, who I personally worked to help get elected campaigned on ousting Strauss. A year latter, he, too, was a public supporter. The likelihood that either of these men will get successfully primaried is very remote. They both come from heavily Republican areas but the interest level in what they do in Austin is so low that there is no backlash.
Unless and until the Strauss/Democratic coalition is broken, the Texas House is going to be in control of the Democrats. They are going to get hearings and votes on the bills that they want. Other bills that the Democrats don't want and the Republican representatives don't want to have to vote on are going to die in committee.
