My nightstand gun is a S&W SD40 with a TLR-1 HL mounted to it.

Re: So....Does anyone still shoot .40 ????
It wasn't that long ago that 9mm was considered under powered, and .45 not enough ammo. The solution was the .40 cal. Along came a couple of ammo shortages, and .40 ammo got real scarce while 9mm. reputation and tests seemed to indicate that quality hollow point 9mm was indeed a decent self-defense round. Glock has come out with double stacked .45 ACP for those that want to make sure that their defensive load starts with a 4 and can have more than 7 or 8 rounds on tap. The reasons to buy a .40 have narrowed down.
There are a lot of .40s around people bought a lot of them. They are still good guns. But almost any new .40 cal gun today has a twin available in 9mm. More capacity, lighter recoil, more gun choices. cheaper range ammo, tend to make the decision to go 9mm easier

I am with TAM on this one. I had a .40 HK USPC and I sold it. I then bought an HK P30 SK in 9mm. I also have an XDM in .45. I alternate carrying the two. I shot both of those bettet than the .40 USPC.The Annoyed Man wrote:I guess I was ahead of the curve when I got out from under .40 Cal a few years back when I sold off my USPc.

Yes, but not as much as the 9.

I don't much like 40. I like 9 and 45. My carry gun is a M&P 45 Shield. I've never liked how 40 handled

I have a Smith and Wesson MP in a 40 cal .
What I like about it is it takes Three barrels .
( three guns in one )
I have a Storm Lake 9mm conversion barrel and 9 mm mag to go with it
I've never had a problem shooting 9 mm with this barrel
I also purchased the 357 sig barrel for it also
The Sig barrel uses the 40 mag
The 357 Sig conversion is my personal favorite
So how ever your feeling that day you can just switch calibers

There are still a few fans but the craze has passed. It's so unpopular since the election that my local Academy put the .40 Blazer Brass on clearance for $2.99 a box.

BTW, I still think that the USPC is a very good pistol. I bought a .40 on the recommendation of a friend, and I never did get very good at shooting that caliber. I was REAL familiar with .45 ACP and reasonably familiar with 9mm at the time, and in hindsight, I should have bought a .45 or a 9mm. If I'd had a USP compact in either of those two calibers, I'd likely still own and carry it today.Syntyr wrote:I am with TAM on this one. I had a .40 HK USPC and I sold it. still carry my glock 27 (since 06), most of the time.9+1 rounds in a regular mag and 15 rounds in a G22 spare mag. but now, my MP2.0 in 9mm is getting more and more carry time. 1000 rounds of tula ammo for $170 or so, gets me shooting every week! and yes as parabelum said, 9mm Luger +P Federal HST 147gr hollow point LE ammo is an awesome round! If it's good enough for the FBI.....well you know!

Someone else posted the exact same "question" to a Facebook page this evening.
I'm also unsure of the correlation between caliber and price....
