Kimbell art Museum Ft.W. No Carry
I'm a new LTC holder and as with all new CCW folks I'm learning who's CCW friendly and who's not.
I regularly have lunch at the Kimbell Art museum and noticed some very hokey signage.

You need to go to https://www.texas3006.com/index.php and look up that location. All things will become clear...

Easiest thing is to download the app. You can upload photos from it.

There's already a photo of the hokey signage in the pre-existing entry for the museum (https://www.texas3006.com/view.php?id=12948) including a discussion in the associated comments.

The posting for the link you gave has no photo and only 1 comment which shows the tabc license. What is the back story?JustSomeOldGuy wrote:There's already a photo of the hokey signage in the pre-existing entry for the museum (https://www.texas3006.com/view.php?id=12948) including a discussion in the associated comments.

It does have a photo. You have to click on the little camera.locke_n_load wrote:The posting for the link you gave has no photo and only 1 comment which shows the tabc license. It's strange that museum is posted 51%, but according to TABC, it's valid.

I don't think it's particularly strange. They rent out the museum out after-hours to private parties. I'm guessing most of those hosting the parties want to have alcohol served. The museum has a vendor with a red TABC license, and the vendor's address is the same address as the musuem. Therefore, the museum's a 51% location because one of its tenants is a red licensee.SoloXCRacer wrote:It's strange that museum is posted 51%, but according to TABC, it's valid.

Re: Kimbell art Museum Ft.W. No Carry
I am just seeing a lot of poor signage. It appears the museum may be 51% on a technicality. Seems a bit of a stretch to me when we know the Kimbell's primary funding is oil holdings by the foundation. But my issue is not with the technical nature of their designation, rather their flippant attitude toward proper signage. The only true 51% signs appeared on the wall behind the cash register in the cafe, well beyond the entrance to the museum proper. The exterior signage expresses the verbiage of a 51% sign only at below knee level. These are not "conspicuously displayed" signs. The movie theatre I visited the other day had both 30.06 & 07 signs below eye level, white letters on clear vinyl. Clearly these signs are meant to be "inconspicuous" intending by their very design to NOT attract attention. We're expected to know our stuff but everyone else can play loosely.

Who knows? With oil prices the past two years, maybe they really are 51%.CrashTxVeeDub wrote:I am just seeing a lot of poor signage. It appears the museum may be 51% on a technicality. Seems a bit of a stretch to me when we know the Kimbell's primary funding is oil holdings by the foundation.

If you are referring to THIS forum, there is no special app. If you're referring to texas3006.com, you can post either through your mobile browser, or through the mobile app for texas3006.com. They have an iPhone version and an Android version, and they can be found here: https://www.texas3006.com/mobileapps.phpCrashTxVeeDub wrote:What app can you post to this forum from?

Re: Kimbell art Museum Ft.W. No Carry
CleverNickname, you mean RED license (in this case), right?
I won't comment on wether it's just a side effect of sloppy legislation/regulation, or a deliberate shell game, but it IS one of my pet peeves.
For instance, a museum some number of times a year will have an opening for a new exhibit/artist, or has their annual gala fundraiser. This can be anything from wine & cheese up to a fullblown alcohol selection that would put a nightclub to shame. (got to 'lubricate' those donations to keep them flowing).
The museum, being in the museum business, not the bar business, has a contract with a local caterer. The caterer has to get a TABC license for that location, and because the events are the only thing the caterer does (revenue stream) AT the museum, it's a 51% license. So now the museum is a valid 51% location during the 6 times a year the caterer is there for events. And because the address on the TABC permit is the museum's address, the building is a 51% location when they're open to the public during their regular hours when the caterer ISN'T there. And when the museum is closed. And when the local elementary school is touring the exhibits, or participating in a student art contest. Or when you're just popping in to buy a Van Gogh postcard from the gift shop in the lobby.
Now, the Kimbell apparently doesn't want to appear "declasse" so they put up some weasely decal signs on the front window that allude to the language on valid tabc signs. They could be forthright about it, hang the red tabc 51% sign in the front window, and proclaim to the world "we're a bar!". But they didn't. If I wanted to indulge my paranoia, I might wonder if there's not a tabc 51% sign hanging, say, in the service corridor the caterer uses to go between the exhibit hall and the back parking lot where they park the catering truck.
In short, it's slimey, it's deceptive, it's untidy, and it's stuff I can't enunciate because of the forum rules. It's every bit as annoying to my OCD tendencies as the tabc blue locations that stick a red 51% sign in their window, rather than being forthright and putting up a 30.06.
End of rant for the day.
