That is one good looking 6 shooter, wait, those are strings. Good job trying to kick start your buddy. I will make 1 suggestion.......... get the knobs that go to 11 and crank the amp up to 11.!!!
Just some guy's opinion.

Nice Guitar...

I picked up one of these today

https://www.banjoteacher.com/banjos-for ... -neck.html

It has the wider neck, but it has an upgraded tone ring.
It's more like this one.

Now if I can just learn to play the dang thing.

Good going Andy! Pics when its finished please! If you ever get the chance upgrades or new build consider Rio Grande pickups.

https://www.riograndepickups.com/humbuc ... for-guitar

All they make are pickups. They do it very well.

I put a set of Texas BBQ in my LP. They are better than the Gibsons I had in there and the Gibsons were an upgrade to begin with.

Now I know why Lady Gaga loves this guy. He can shred on a six-string!

Andy-minor/major-pentatonic-bluesman-C!

Good on ya helping your friend through this issue. Creating, building something is always good for the soul.

(But 70's Fat Strat. Humbucker down and dirty. Many Les Paul's had that tuning retention issue....)

I have a Les Paul studio but always loved the look of a Les Paul custom in silver burst.

The fret board shouldn't be sealed so you could darken it up.

Eventually, your finger oils will darken it up if you play it enough.

There are quite a few instructions on the internet on staining a guitar neck.....nothing wrong with staining a neck.
