Problem with Gun
Ok,
I have a gun i really like to carry but it may have a problem. Or it could be my technique.
I have an XDS 4.0 45 and it has never jammed or had any problems while shooting BUT when i unload the chamber manually i have to violently rack it to get the bullet out. If i dont rack it HARD the bullet will get hard stuck diagonally and not come out without some hassle.
Any ideas? Its like the hole in the slide is a hair too small.

Are you shooting factory ammo or reloads?
Have you tried changing out the recoil spring assembly?

Re: Problem with Gun
First try different ammo. Unusual for an XD to mess up. Does it extract okay during normal firing or just when you do it manually. Remove the magazine and try it to see what happens. Never mind on the first question. I just saw that you said it's only manually. It might just need some more break in. Make sure you lightly lube the slide groove. Are you letting the slide return on it's own?

Re: Problem with Gun
I have an XDs45 3.3 and it works the same way. I have never considered it a problem. I just know that I have to rack it hard to get it to extract. I rarely unload it. My range ammo is Federal Champion 230gr and carry ammo is Federal HST 230gr.

Re: Problem with Gun
If the chamber bore were too tight to eject an unfired cartridge, then a fired cartridge wouldn't be even more difficult to eject. When you load it, the slide should slam shut on the breech so that the extractor grabs or latches onto the back of the case. Perhaps when you rack the slide you're letting it forward gently.
Re: Problem with Gun
My G23 has somewhat the same "issue" (I don't think of it as an issue). When my storm lake 357 Sig barrel is in, the 357 Sig cartridge will not manually eject all the time. That's both with G32 mag a G23 mags.cmgee67 wrote:Get a Glock
It never jammed however. When I put the stock .40 cal barrel back in, the .40's eject as expected.

Re: Problem with Gun
Lots of guns are like that... it was designed to eject spent brass. Most of the time when this issue comes up, it's people cycling the slide real slow and trying to eject the live round into their hand. Lean the gun to the right and rack the slide like you are loading it. Not often they will hiccup if you aren't trying to corral the live round.

Re: Problem with Gun
You'll still have control of your pistol and be able to lock back the slide after you practice this for awhile with a dummy round.
Practice good form & keep your weapon pointed in a safe direction. ALWAYS.
Try dropping the mag about 2/3-3/4 of the way out, while your pinky holds the mag wrap your other hand over the slide
& rack it like it's a rental. The chambered round will bounce off the palm of your hand & fall on top of the partially dropped mag.
You should & will feel the round drop onto the mag if you pay attention to what you are doing.
YMMV, but this has worked for me for quite awhile.

Re: Problem with Gun
My XDs .45 (3.3") does the same
I consider it part of the weapons function and don't worry about it
It has started to clear a bit easier, but I have probably put 500 rounds through it by now.

Re: Problem with Gun
If you think about how the extractor and ejector bar work together it makes sense if you go to slow on some pistols that this happens. Ejection needs some momentum to work.
The unfired round might always ride on the edge of the opening but with enough momentum it wont fall off the extractor when that happens. Tipping the gun right helps because the extractor is now under the round and gravity is helping hold it.

Re: Problem with Gun
I guess the kicker here is the "violently" rack it to get the not fired round out. That to me implies that more force is necessary to unload than would normally be used. I don't have the answer but if this were my gun I would be calling the manufacturer for an answer. It is standard practice to rack a pistol to remove an unfired cartridge and it shouldn't take violent force.
