Re: Calexit
And why would you want to split it up, potentially giving them MORE votes in the senate and electoral college?jmra wrote:If the fire sale includes the people why would you want it back?priusron wrote:They are already bankrupt. They will loose a lot of federal money. They won't be able to pay for all the illegals health care, food stamps, section 8 housing etc. Then when they have another earthquake they will want a lot of federal aid. After a few years the US will be able to buy the state a fire sale prices and piece it up.

I am nowhere near an expert, but wouldnt splitting it in 2 give the Repubs their own state? Therefore, minimizing the Dems electoral votes?

Re: Calexit
Would San Francisco be part of the new northern state? Keep in mind, liberals tend to congregate around higher population density areas. I'm personally good with their electoral votes getting spread out among the remaining 49 states, with Texas picking up the lions share considering it would make us the #1 most populated state in the country.Mxrdad wrote:I am nowhere near an expert, but wouldnt splitting it in 2 give the Rebubs their own state? I really dunno. But I guess its all moot since it really is a pipe dream. Whatever happened to those fault lines? I had such high hopes for that! Unfortunately, we are joined at the hip with these folks with no easy way out. It would be great if all of President Trumps supporters quit going to the movies and hit em the best way possible. In the wallet. Affecting someones wallet always gets their attention. Whether you take money out, or put it in, it is an attention getter.

Re: Calexit
I often claim to favor secession. I believe that States unwillingly bound to an unfaithful union is tyranny. For that reason, I think secession must be an option and I have rushed to lampoon California's idiocy by offering support to get them out of our way.
But I am my father's son. He fought and nearly died for this nation. I can't hear The Star Spangled Banner or Lee Greenwood's Proud To Be An American and forget what America stands for.
Secession is justifiable only if America is seceding from political rot, not the other way around. We could secede from California and not risk the wrath of our ancestors. California could only secede from us in shame.
Far better that we conquer and eradicate what amounts to domestic invasion on the Left Coast than California secede. It is past time for America to honor the guarantees in the Constitution, starting with the Second Amendment, on behalf of huddled Californians yearning to breathe free.
That's what really needs to happen. We need to practice a little nation building right here on our soil. Let the Americanization of California begin. Now.
Failing that, good luck to the People's Republic. Y'all write if you get work.

I assume you're question is for priusron. If the land came with the people who voted to leave I wouldn't want it back at all.Flightmare wrote:And why would you want to split it up, potentially giving them MORE votes in the senate and electoral college?jmra wrote:If the fire sale includes the people why would you want it back?priusron wrote:They are already bankrupt. You are correct. And like someone above mentioned...this is all just a fun thought exercise. None of it will actually happen.jmra wrote:I assume you're question is for priusron. Re: Calexit
This is just leftist posturing because they lost the election.
California is one of the most beautiful states in the union.
Sadly, the marxist/socialists have a strangle hold on it, but someday, maybe, the Conservatives who live there will regain power.
However, many of them are bailing out lessening that possibility...

Re: Calexit
What is it about folks in California that they think they are accomplishing something by threatening to do something to themselves? They threaten to secede. Some of them are threatening to cut off certain body parts. This is supposed to....intimidate us?
Re: Calexit
Not true. Texas has no more powers than any other state. And maybe has less. The annexation agreement that brought Texas into the Union limited the maximum number of states that Texas could be divided into (5) - no other state has a limit on it like that.JustSomeOldGuy wrote:Cherry picking select quotes/topics from Tucker Carlson's interview of the liberal talking head from California;
Lastly, Texas is the only entity that has a legal right to secede, ...
As to legality, there is no legal mechanism to secede from the US. If a state announces it has "seceded" then the result will either be acquiescence or war. Last time there was war.
