Ha. I didnt catch that. Whats up with the Cardinals? Wishful thinking maybe? Although I must admit, I lost interest years ago with the sports industry. If it's convenient, I might watch it. But if there is anything else the family wants to do, I'll gladly be with them instead of glued to the boob-tube on that day.Liberty wrote:All I know is the Patriots are not playing the Cardinals. The left lies about everything. Truth is a liberal value, and truth is a conservative value, but it has never been a left-wing value. People on the left say whatever advances their immediate agenda. Power is their moral lodestar; therefore, truth is always subservient to it. - Dennis Prager

The fact that a police chief may violate laws is distinct from whether something is legal. It just determines whether or not that person is a criminal.Jusme wrote:Liberty wrote:No it is not a sporting event in itself it is in a government owned building. They can not legally post 30.06/30.07 at discovery Green or the G.R. Brown for this event.
To do so would be illegal, immoral, and despicable.
You forget there's a new police chief in town. He had no problem posting signs in Austin.
I wonder if RICO statutes could be used against police agencies that actively violate laws such as this and others...

Soccerdad1995,
And another perspective: Why do we care about the game?
Given the OK for hateful players of the US by football management, I'm not interested in pro football.
They're fine with guys who demonstrate they hate America, then no, I'm not interested in their games...
I'm just not interested...football can just slowly just fade away...

There is prize money awarded for the elite class, wouldn't this give the DA some ammo if they really wanted?KC5AV wrote: ... a decidedly not professional sporting event.

"Premises" means a building or a portion of a building.
This is my opinion. There are many like it, but this one is mine.

Re: Super bowl
Personally, I do not care about the game. My interest has been fading for several years, and the antics this year pretty much killed whatever I had left. But I do care when the RKBA is illegally restricted, even if it doesn't impact me personally. Kind of a "first they came for the Socialists......" kind of thing.Abraham wrote:Soccerdad1995,

TPC states that the premises of a sporting event are off limits, so unless the marathon was held indoors, it would not apply.TVGuy wrote:There is prize money awarded for the elite class, wouldn't this give the DA some ammo if they really wanted?KC5AV wrote: ... a decidedly not professional sporting event.

Re: Super bowl
I walked to Discovery Green from my office this afternoon. In addition to the sign posted in the "Discovery Green" post, they also have 30.06 and 30.07 signs, the park is blocked off with screening, and you have to go through metal detectors to get in. Police and "S.A.F.E. Management" security guards all around. I spoke with one of the security guards who informed me that Discovery Green has always been a "no weapons" park. Interesting, as the park is just a couple blocks from my office and I've walked around the park at lunchtime probably 75% of business days since July and have never seen a no weapons sign, let alone a 30.06 or 30.06 sign.

Re: Super bowl
The Discovery Green Conservancy is a non-profit that runs the park. Their webpage does state a policy of no firearms. So from that standpoint the claim could be considered true. The park is a hybrid public/private company, and the land it is on is owned by the Houston Downtown Park Corp. the property is listed as XV for tax purposes, exempt (government). So it is government property. Hence it should be allowed. Also the Hilton Hotel across the street is on public property, but managed by Hilton. They have had a 30.06 posted in the past even though it is government property too.ipscshooter wrote:I walked to Discovery Green from my office this afternoon. Re: Super bowl
I'm starting to think that the "Fines for Signs" law did more damage, and resulted in more locations being restricted than before. Before the law and AG opinion that non-profits could post public land (even if the posting was not criminally enforceable), many cities didn't post or those that did, never enforced with metal detectors. Now they are. They can't be fined (AG opinion) and if they physically prevent your entry, you are limited to taking civil action. Good luck with that.
I posted a while ago that I thought the law was DOA...and here we have more evidence. We're on our second year and we're going backwards...State Fair prohibits OC... Austin posts City Hall and no fines yet. The biggest action for AG has been multi use builings/courthouses with other offices inside, where perhaps the argument for the removal of restrictions is the weakest. Additionally, we have the "school zoos", and "amusement park zoos", and baby schools (daycare) that the AG has created arguably out of thin air.
On the positive side we got open carry and lowered the 30.06/7 violations to a "traffic ticket".

In lieu of Raid coming out with a new Wasp & Drone Spray, it's actually sorta possible: http://www.foxnews.com/tech/2015/10/14/ ... radio.html.ninjabread wrote:No drones. Are they going to shoot them down?

With all the security prep and presence in place, it wouldn't surprise me one bit. Local news says that over 20 agencies--local, state, federal, and private (the NFL has their own security operation headed by a former DC chief of police)--are in place on the ground and in the air. The feds have a large helo flying at low altitudes a few times every day for the purpose of taking air samples for radiation and biologics. The day of the game, there will be a no-fly zone strictly enforced all around NRG Stadium in a wide 10-mile radius and up to 18,000 feet. My understanding is that lasts from 4:00 p.m. to midnight. LE helos will be in the air and armed fighters on the tarmac at Ellington, ready to scramble.
Houston truly is stranger than usual this week.
