I want to get a new option for a carry gun. I want to go Kimber Ultra sized. My question is which one. I've got it down to two:

Kimber Ultra Carry in stainless

OR

Kimber Ultra CDP II
Image

The CDP II is about $100 dollars more than the stainless Ultra Carry. Is it worth it for the front strap checking and whatever other doo-dads they put on there. This would be a carry gun so it would get the usual wear and tear.


I'm already dead set on picking up a 642 revolver when funds allow, and this would be close behind. With an AR in there somewhere. Speaking of the AR - I'm thinking of getting a .458 SOCOM caliber AR. Any thoughts on this too???

I have a Kimber CDP Pro with internal ejector, but not the Ultra size. I have one on my list, though. My Kimber is flawless. The CDP rounded edges make it a nice, comfortable carry piece.

ambi safety, night sights, melted edges make the CDP a winner. I have one in the full size and LOVE it.

Awesome guys - thanks for the reply. The CDP is just plain hot too.

Now...if I only had a thousand bucks...


There is actaully a slightly used one on guns america for 800 something bucks. Now...if I only had 800 bucks...

I have shot both and prefer the CDP for a carry gun.

As for the AR.... do you have a standard AR-15 in 5.56 ??
If not , I would recommend a standard AR-15 ( A2 Rifle or M4gery) before going to a more exotic caliber. If you already have an AR, go for it.
I talked to a real shooter who has a .50 beowulf AR and he said he's had a lot of fun with it.

The more stuff I get and try, the more I appreciate simplicity in design, supply, and use.

I'd stick with a 5.56mm AR. If that's not big enough, there's always the FN FAL.

Another + 1 for the CDP. :iagree: The checkering on the front strap for me is worth a lot. All the smooth edges are sweet. Invest the $100 & if anyone says anything about the holster wear tell them that is character marks. You will love it for carry. Mine shoots great to. :lol: The wife would steel it if it was not too big to go in her purse.

If cost isn't an issue get the ultra CDP. I have the non CDP ultra. IT is a good gun and I have no issues with it, but The CDP version is much nicer.

What nice is with the standard AR you can get a .50 beowolf upper and use the standard AR magazines. It'll only hold 10 rounds, but WHAT FUN!!

With the CDP or other "melted" pistols, is there an issue with holster fit?

Ultra CDP II all the way! It's definitely worth the extra c-note. Here's a pic of mine with Alumagrips installed. :grin:
