Last that I recall of that issue was that you could carry, but you'd be put through a gauntlet of questions, searches, and other embarrasing public dressing downs that it all hinges on what you are willing to put up with...
But maybe this year things will not be as demeaning...

You can carry legally at the State Fair of Texas. You need to declare to one of the police officers prior to entry and show your CHL and they should escort you around the metal detectors.

State Fair
I went last year (packing). I just walked up to and officer and made mention of my CHL and he was very accomidating and walked me around. I have heard strip search stories but I guess that depends on the officer and his personal feeling as to how much of a headache it will be.

Yep some of the stuff was a bit over the top, but I figure they can't really do anything more than what they've done to a few that got rubbed the wrong way...Supercat wrote:I went last year (packing). I guess call me a prude, but I'm still miffed by the whole taking names and data on your license down on some sheet of paper...
Who controls that data, and what are the retention and destruction protocols...
I believe its the simplest questions when you ask, that stump people...

Re: State Fair
I'd like to but I've still got some medical issues to work through from my surgery last month. I've been feeling better the last couple of weeks, but I've still got a long way to go before I'm back to a semblence of normal.stevie_d_64 wrote: Hey Frankie...Wanna go to the fair this year??? BTW, I was definitely in fear for my life prior to going into surgery. But I knew it was not reasonable to employ deadly force. (Besides, the hospital was posted with compliant 30.06 signs.)

As has been said, before the detectors you tell then you have a CHL and are carrying. They will escort you around and call some dude on a Glof Cart who will write down your info, then in you go.
Funny thing, my wife and daughter were with me, and THEY both were escorted around also.

Wow! I feel SO left out! I carried at the fair last year and nobody took my name, or searched me, or nothing.
I walked up to the officer at the metal detector, and shared that I was a CHL holder and carrying.
Officer: "OK, let me see your license"
I produced it, he looked at it, then "OK, Ms. Watson, what are you carrying?"
Me: "9mm Glock"
Officer: "Well, all right, I guess that's big enough. Go on in"
Oh, and BTW, the kids still had to go through the metal detector!
