What a great way to spend the morning!
Went out to a dairy farm near Yantis, TX with two old friends, two new friends and 3 guys on the guide team this morning.
We dropped the first duck about a half hour before sunrise and had our limit of 48 birds by 9 or 9:30.

Re: What a great way to spend the morning!
Pawpaw, that is a great way to spend the morning and I am jealous. I haven't been able to go out at all this year yet and with the weather finally getting colder and a foggy start to the morning today, I was thinking it would be a good day to be in a duck blind. 48 birds is a lot of fun.
In certain extreme situations, the law is inadequate. In order to shame its inadequacy, it is necessary to act outside the law to pursue a natural justice.

I'm jealous on so many levels...
First, hunting on a Monday... Awesome!!!
Second, our season has been pretty slow down here on the coast. Hoping the colder weather is bringing in some fresh birds for this weekend...
Looks like an awesome morning and the smiles in the picture confirm it!!!

Pawpaw,
If they were flipped over, I could I.D. them, but on their backs, nuh uh...
So, as I'm always interested in bird life and a former duck and goose hunter, would you us give an idea of what sort of mix they are...?
Thanks!
Man, I too am jealous.
Duck gumbo, mmmmhhhhhhh!

Re: What a great way to spend the morning!
Thanks guys. I brought a dozen of them home and my granddaughter helped with the cleaning. (OK, really she cleaned most of them herself!)
She put her culinary school talents to work and made some brine in which the breasts are now soaking. When they're done soaking, they'll go in the freezer to be saved for Christmas dinner.
Edited a typo.

They were all Gadwalls. Luck of the draw... all the ones I brought home were hens.Abraham wrote:Pawpaw,

Pawpaw,
Great eating birds.
And if it's not early - MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Pretty darn impressive. Would you be willing to share a recommendation for the guide you used?Pawpaw wrote:Went out to a dairy farm near Yantis, TX with two old friends, two new friends and 3 guys on the guide team this morning.

I went striper fishing on Lake Texoma the day before Thanksgiving and I thought we fared well but that picture you posted really blew me away!

I'll see if I can get the contact info from my friend that set it up. Once I have it, I'll post it here.Bitter Clinger wrote:Pretty darn impressive.
