A no gun sign for CHLers?
Today I stopped to get gas at a new gas station and convenient store in Leggett, TX (just north of Livingston, TX) on US 59. I noticed an official looking sign stuck to the window next to the door with the Texas State Alcohol agency that said something like this: "The unlicensed or LICENSED possession of a firearm in this business is against the law and is a penalty of $10,000 or 10 years in prison" Not exact language, but the point is it wasn't a .30.06 sign, a 30.07 sign or a 51% sign and it was just a gas station convenient store. I think they sold alcohol but their main business was candy, food, cigarettes and gas. Is this some new law? OR is this an improper posting?

If they sell beer (and wine), they have to post a TABC BLUE sign. The sign you described has no basis in law, and the people who posted it do not know the law. Carry on!

You sure it wasn't this sign?
If so, that is required by the TABC because they sell alcohol for off-premise consumption, and you can carry past it. if it actually said LICENSED, then it sounds like the store had their own version printed and it does not meet the TABC requirement and is illegal and the store could be fined for not posting the correct sign.

The person placing that sign is dispensing legal advice without a law license, and they are also mistaken about the law.
This is the same as me posting a sign by my front door that says "solicitation at this location is a felony and all violators will be subject to the death penalty."

Absolutely NOT. It was a transparent sign with black letters. It had some kind of Texas Alcohol agency abbreviation at the top AND it said LICENSED.Keith B wrote:You sure it wasn't this sign?

Re: A no gun sign for CHLers?
If the place wasn't off limits otherwise, I think I'd follow the safest, most conservative path. I'd leave my gun in the holster without messing with it. Nobody would know, no one would be endangered, it would not be in violation of the law despite their gunbuster sign. Or so it seems to me.
I wouldn't open carry there.
Personally, I hate having to touch my gun. My preference is just leave the thing alone and quiet in the holster. I'm not disarmed, handling risks are minimized.

I did a little searching. I think the language is the sign YOU posted here in this old thread: http://www.texaschlforum.com/viewtopic.php?t=28922Keith B wrote:You sure it wasn't this sign?

Did the sign meet 30.06? 30.07?
There's your answer.

Not what you saw, but this odd variant of the blue sign that TABC had online for a while is on a business in Pflugerville.

Isn't this the sign for stores that sell alcohol, but not for consumption. I see it on grocery stores, Target, Walmart, etc.tornado wrote:Not what you saw, but this odd variant of the blue sign that TABC had online for a while is on a business in Pflugerville.
Re: A no gun sign for CHLers?
The blue sign up above is the standard for off-premise sales. This one was published by TABC at one time, but it isn't on their site any more.

If it's a 51% sign, I would not, under any normal circumstances, carry there.
The local Wal Mart has the outdated blue sign, which I lawfully carry past on a regular basis. Doesn't apply to me.

Re: A no gun sign for CHLers?
A little off topic, but I noticed a sign that cited 30.05 and forbade carrying of a guns in the building. I know that doesn't apply to CHLers but I don't know if the owner was intentional on that or not
