As I see it, Cabela's will just raise gun prices.
Bass Pro has the highest gun prices, followed by Cabela's, then Academy is the lowest that I have found

So Bass Pro will buy Cabela's, raise gun prices and then we are back to just 2 choices.

Soon however, Dicks will be open in my area, while I don't know what their prices are like, hopefully not on the Bass Pro end of the spectrum!

Well that just sucks. I live right down the street from Cabela's. I hope they don't change anything and jack up prices. Bass Pro is a complete joke when it comes to their pricing.

I haven't been to Dick's since they bought Galyan's many moons ago because they pulled handguns off the shelves and just sold long guns. Not sure if they've changed their tune and added handguns back or not.

Well, in our local area we have a Dick's, Gander Mountain, and an Academy. In my experience, their prices are in that order. Dick's and Gander at the high end and Academy at the lower end. The only time I go to Dick's is if they have a REALLY good sale on ammunition. For gun prices, they look like they take the MSRP and that is the price on their tag. Also, selection at local Dick's is not much. Gander has a very good selection of new guns, a few used (overpriced), but IF Academy has the same gun, it is considerably cheaper. Actually, when I was looking for a .308 AR, Bass Pro in Round Rock had the best price of the Big stores, but still found a better deal at a LGS. I have been a Cabelas customer for many years and their guns are nice to look at and get hands on, but prices (new and used) are high. Ammo is also above academy, but usually a larger selection.

Good catch! Thanks for sharing. Link didn't work for me, but google did.

I have recently been shopping a lot at these big outdoors stores. I feel like Cabela's is doing a great job with customer service and appreciation. They have friendly, engaging sales people all over the floor ready to help. The Cabela's manager even worked with me price matching themselves on an expensive piece of equipment that went on sale shortly after I bought it. They also have a pretty good points reward card. Cabela's has had some great ammo sales recently too.

I hope the transfer of ownership doesn't change Cabela's too much. I have been enjoying the way they set themselves apart.

This link should work. For my browser and current location, the uppercase C in Cabellas in the original poster's link caused a 401 error. That's funny. :biggrinjester:

I heard Cabela's was having difficulty and an employee at the Ft Worth store confirmed it. It will be interesting to see what if any changes occur. Our Cabela's near League City just opened and just north of them a Dick's and a Field and Stream store are opening soon. The Dick's and F&S are next door to each other!

The League City Cabelas was a bit disappointing when I first went to it. Looks large from the outside, but doesn't have a huge amount to offer on the inside. It's not what I expected when I walked in, having been to a couple other Cabelas in the past (full size ones) and Bass Pro.

Puma Guy, I saw that too when I was home this past weekend, right next to Baybrook Mall.

We're just down to 2 choices; Cabela's/Bass Pro and Academy's. Dick's is anti-2nd A. They pulled "assault rifles" off shelves after the mass shooting at the elementary school. They pulled handguns off shelves, too. Recently, they've put handguns back on shelves in the Dallas location, for now. What a joke. A gun seller who's anti-2nd A!

Academy's is the only one with decent prices now. Also, they did not jack up prices during the ammo shortage. Instead, they limited sales to 2 packs per person. They've won my customer loyalty.

just don't buy more than their "reasonable amount" of "assault rifle" ammunition, or you get to go into their database.

I hope they keep all their black powder stuff. Gander is limited and Bass Pro is nil.

I learned about this when we signed up for a Bass Pro timeshare in Branson in August. They said all they had left was to "dot the i's and cross the t's". I like to go to both Cabela's and BPS, but rarely buy anything. Dick's is off my list. I don't know about all of them, but the two local ones near me both the hunting/guns dept. is pretty much in the broom closet and prices not worth the trip. Academy is still my main source for guns, ammo and hunting stuff. YMMV :tiphat:

I recently bought Monarch 10 boxes of 7.62x39 (it was on sale and cheaper per round than a spam can). No eyes were batted and no information was asked for. My main source right now is a pawn shop in my neighborhood. As long as I keep buying Silver Bear soft points he'll keep ordering them.
Good to hear! But they were definitely doing it after the Miami incident.
