Suggestions/Recommendations: Dress shoes for Plantar Fasciitis

Hi all, I figure I can't be the only one with plantar fasciitis and I was curious if anyone had found any men's dress shoes that are comfortable and aid in staving off the pains when you're on your feet all day. I'm doing all the medical stuff and now I'm looking for shoes! I appreciate the suggestions in advance.

I went to a New Balance store and did the foot test. I use the inserts but they do have some dress shoes. Night and day. Pricey though if you go the shoe route.

I know this isn't what you are asking, but a chiropractor took care of my plantar fasciitis in one visit. Another chiropractor took care of the same situation for my brother-in-law.

PF ruined my age group triathlon career 30 years ago. I suffered with PF from 1986 until 2003, in varying degrees.

I gave away all my fancy dress shoes and started wearing dress shoes made by Rockport. Those seem to have enough room for the orthotics I apparently needed. I went to the first original Good Feet store in San Diego County. I've been using those ever since, after trying all sorts of off the shelf and custom made orthotics. I had gone to every podiatrist, sports medicine, physical therapist, chiropractor and even the "OB Witch Doctor" a character highly regarded by runners and triathletes in San Diego. After years of misery and deprivation, like not going to Ironman in 1988 and subsequent, in 2003 I came back from our stay in my wife's village in France, vowing to just give up, and gave away all my straight lasted Brooks Chariots. Within a month, the PF went away, and has never returned.

PF has a variety of treatments, every one of which has helped some, but none of which always work.

The first bout, I did all the treatments, went to all the specialists, etc. and after about 18 months, I had some relief. I started training for Ironman enthusiastically, and it soon returned. This time, I stopped running and biking. A year and a half later, I was better. So, if you treat it aggressively, it takes 18 months. Otherise, it takes a year and a half!

Thanks for the replies everyone; I appreciate the info. I've had my PF for about 4 years on and off; I don't think it's ever going to go away at this point. I found that chiro, acupuncture, meds etc. etc. didn't do anything. The most relief I got was with some cheap inserts (the $$$ ones were too rigid and worked at first, but caused pain after a month or so).

I'll look into Rockports.

I had planters warts for years, bought a product called Wartabater and it cured the warts. Free away did not work, even tried duct tape. This product really worked.

I put a pair of Dr Scholls inserts in all my boots and running shoes. I haven't had a flair up since.

I used to run 5 to 10 miles per day and had a horrible time with PF. The only relief that I found came from using hard plastic heel cups.

I cured my PF by doing seated calf raises while working out. It stretches out my calf muscle so it stopped tightening the tendon.

I agree completely; keeping active makes a huge difference.

usurp31, I strongly suggest looking at brands: Ecco & Mephisto.

Eccos are easier to find and available online. They also have some stores in outlet malls such as the San Marcos one. I've got some real good deals there. Both are european sized. Both are expensive, but priceless.

I used to manage a shoe store that specialized in helping with issues such as yours. I also suffered from it as well.
Orthopedic inserts will get you the best results and can make the worst shoes usable.

I wear Eccos 80% of the time.
