Mine expires end of Jan2017, so guess I better submit prior to Thanksgiving to be on the safe side.

You should be able to submit any time between now and then. Mine expires January 6th.

Yeah I checked online the other night. I just want to get as much time out of the license as possible. No sense in paying them for six months and not getting it.

The new license will expire on the same day (your birthday), no matter when you do the renewal. :tiphat:

The way I looked at it I can toss the current one in my truck incase I forget my wallet (which has happened) and keep the new one in said wallet.

Question, how soon can one apply for renewal? I don't see an option when I sign onto the website.

You should get it on the site when you're 180 days or less from expiration. Not 6 months...but 180 days.
4/13/1996 Completed CHL Class, 4/16/1996 Fingerprints, Affidavits, and Application Mailed, 10/4/1996 Received CHL, renewed 1998, 2002, 2006, 2011, 2016...). "ATF... Uhhh...heh...heh....Alcohol, tobacco, and GUNS!! Cool!!!!"

I dunno. I believe you're expected to destroy the old one. I don't think you can possess two licenses at one time. If you're requested to present your license and you offer an old one, it may be noticed and might raise some questions.

The expiration date and audit number will not match what comes up on the LEO's computer.
