Hunting Rifle + Scope = Assault Weapon

#1

Post by Revet »

Words fail me. I guess this is the dumbest string of comments I've heard from an anti-gun "expert." Brought to us not by MSNBC or ABC, etc, but by FOX.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gYhA-cUjqDE

“The difference between a hunting rifle and an assault rifle is, frankly, the scope that one puts on it. Scopes can be purchased online.”

“Double shot weapons...”

“They can do it very easily with something you could purchase at a grocery store.”

Yeah I'm headed to Kroger later to buy my double shot rifle and order a scope on line, and then put that "adapter" on it. So I can have my very own "assault" weapon. :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:

I guess the bar to be called an "expert" is set pretty low.

Y'all have provided another example, among the many, of why we don't watch the news.

After the San Bernardino massacre, Gregg Jarrett of Fox News explained that an AR-15 was easily made into a machine gun by adding the bullet button.

I showed my wife that video, and while she isn't exactly a gun person and might not have known all of the errors contained in that lady's statement, she knew enough to know that you couldn't buy the parts at the grocery store. And she also knew that a scope didn't make a rifle an assault weapon. She suggests that we contact FOX News and take them to task for such misinformation being broadcast on their station. :bigmouth

Fox News is the only national news I will watch, and, for the most part they usually try to get things right. I do wish they would actually reach out to someone who is actually knowledgeable about guns, allow them to demonstrate the various types, explain the nomenclature, clips versus magazine, semi auto versus automatic, and explain that the term "assault" rifle is a media conjured term, and then provide their reporters with reference material, that they can use whenever the subject comes up. I know that not everyone is educated when it comes to guns, but I don't understand why they allow so much misinformation to be introduced, especially when they use the word "expert". Gun owners have no voice in the national media that will actually teach the general public the facts about guns.

Fox News, imho, has been moving to the progressive/leftist side for some time.

I've pretty much quit watching news broadcasts because I don't trust any of them anymore.
The left lies about everything. Truth is a liberal value, and truth is a conservative value, but it has never been a left-wing value. People on the left say whatever advances their immediate agenda. Power is their moral lodestar; therefore, truth is always subservient to it. - Dennis Prager

You would think SOMEBODY at the station was a 'gun guy'...maybe the janitor...maybe the mail clerk. Find that guy and say, "I need to talk about guns but I don't wanna sound like an idiot...help me out?"

They are in NYC - I'm sure there are some, but it's NYC! :biggrinjester:

Here is something about that "expert" http://mimesislaw.com/fault-lines/jenni ... pert/11262

All you need to know:
But the networks needed to get someone on the air, quickly, to educate the public on the type of weapon used. So Fox News called upon Jennifer Barringer to appear as their expert. Barringer is a lawyer out of New Jersey[2] who was on the defense team for both of Phil Spector’s murder trials and who consulted on the Casey Anthony defense team. In addition to being a lawyer, Barringer had been a news anchor in Germany for three years, so she did well on the small screen.

Sounds like a good idea, right? The network gets someone who will look good on camera, is an attorney who can explain the law, and is an expert on firearms.

Well, two out of three ain’t bad.

I'm furious. :mad5 I'm writing a scathing letter to Kroger corporate and will include my Kroger Rewards key-tag with it, cancelling my participation in their affinity program.

My local Kroger is one of the superstore locations, yet nowhere, nowhere could I find a double-shot weapon of any kind. Not only that, there was not one single rifle scope in the store. Every employee I asked gave me only deer-in-the-headlights looks. I demanded to talk to a manager, and she tried to tell me that Kroger never did, and never will, stock any kind of firearm. I left her with a copy of this nationally televised news broadcast on a thumb drive, and told her she should listen to this trusted, utmost authority...and then decide if she needed to learn a bit more about the industry in which she worked.

I told her if Kroger wouldn't sell me a double-shot weapon I would, grudgingly, take all my business to HEB.

This local FOX affiliate shouldn't be used to indict FOX News Network. Although, I have seen some very ill informed commentators on FNN, including Bill O'Reilly who thinks what he terms as assault weapons shouldn't be available to ordinary people.
