+1 on M&P9c. I typically carry a Shield 40 but have a M&P9c I carry sometimes. I much prefer the M&P9c, but I typically carry the Shield 40 because it's smaller.

My main carry but if I need smaller I go with HK p30 sk 9mm. But I don't mind my pinky on the bottom of the mag.

I never liked the idea of a Striker fired weapon for a new carrier.

I don't necessarily have an aversion to striker fired weapons, I just tend to prefer hammer fired ones. I've also been considering a mid size carry piece so I'll be interested to see everyone's suggestions as well.

My concern for them is about the newer users. I understand that an experienced carrier can and does carry and reholster safely.

I used a Glock 19 at my LTC class. I liked it for the most part but it didn't feel comfortable in my hand. I did some research and found the FNS-9mm. Give it a try, they also have it in a compact version.

A low cost option would be a CZ P07, it compares to a Glock 19 in terms of size and capacity.
Another option would be the Sphinx SDP subcompact, it comapres to a Glock 26 in terms of size but holds 13(+1) in a flush magazine.

I have a glock 27 and 30sf that I carry with X-Grips installed on G22 and G21 full size magazines...gives me a full size grip with great feel and extra mag capacity; works well for me. You can see videos at Glockstore website. YMMV

A 1911 is next on my list, so I will have all bases covered then!

A Commander size 1911 might be a good alternative to you.

Agreed. A Sig P227 Carry, might work for you as well. 11 x .45 with a couple 14 round spares......

I find a H & K USP compact very comfortable and easy to conceal. It is no pocket carry , but I never pocket carry

I own Glocks and I must admit I don't like them at all. The biggest problem is the grip angle is significantly different from 1911's that I have carried and used for decades. I also don't like the brick feel of a Glock, but some people like it.

If you intend to get a 1911, or most any other automatic that has pretty much the same grip angle, then I'd stay away from Glocks.

Starting to really like the feel of the Walther grips. PPS is an awesome single-stack option, and very thin.
